Bentley's domination at Le Mans from 1924 - 1930 is legendary due to the incredible reliability and high speed endurance capabilities of the British Racing Green Team Cars. The Cricklewood built sports cars were consistently raced to victory and undoubtedly created instant sales demand for production models. We are delighted to offer this truly magnificent Bentley onto the market. BF 4923 has been totally rebuilt to the highest of standards and has covered minimal mileage since completion in 2008. The condition throughout is first class and is presented in immaculate. show standard condition.
The Bentley was totally rebuilt from the ground up with a replacement chassis to exact 10'10" specification produced by Julian Ghosh ex-VSCC President and fitted with a set of original strut gear. The vehicle on completion was authenticated by the Bentley Drivers Club and allocated an RC chassis number. The engine is an original WO unit. converted to 4. 5 litres and rebuilt by Cedrick Cooke. The engine was fitted with new pistons. rods. valves and running shell bearings. The flywheel was lightened and balanced and the original WO 'B' gearbox rebuilt and converted to 'BS' specification using new constant mesh gears from Brineton Engineering. A lightweight propshaft was balanced and fitted with Hardy Spicer joints. A standard 4. 5 specification differential was rebuilt by Elmdown Engineering and fitted with a 3. 3:1 spiral bevel crown wheel and pinion for relaxed cruising on the open road. Most internal parts were renewed with BDC spares scheme parts.
The Bentley has been fitted with a standard 4. 5 system with large copper fishtail fitted. standard 4. 5 ignition with twin ML magnetos have been installed and the electrical system completely re-wired with period type cotton covering the loom. The Bentley retains an original Smiths Dynamo. cut out and fuse box and lighting in the form of Lucas P100 bullseye headlamps with fitted stone guards. Lucas 1130 sidelamps. twin spotlamps with stone guards and four Rubbolites to the rear fitted. The Bentley had a traditional ash framed Vanden Plas three door Le Mans fabric covered body built with twin cockpit ventilators and VDP kick plates to all door openings and two stick racing hood frame. Lightweight aluminium Le Mans cycle wings with riveted strengtheners have been fitted and an original bonnet louvred on the top and sides is in place with four original catches and twin leather straps. An original fold-flat hinged chrome screen with demountable aero screens was fitted and the interior was totally trimmed with green 'Bridge of Weir' hide and Wilton carpeting throughout with original VDP pattern front seats and standard rear seat. The dashboard retains and original 4. 5 switch plate with choke mechanism and 6" Jaeger speedo and Rev counter. A Smiths temperature gauge. Smiths type starter button. Weston ammeter. two original Homa dash lights and Bosch horn button are all in place along with three period ceramic/brass light switches and Smith air pressure gauge. All gauges and instruments were rebuilt by 'Vintage Restorations'.
BF 4923 has standard 4. 5 specification suspension with an original set of springs rebuilt. re-tempered and bound in string to a traditional racing pattern by Jim Pike. Double heavy duty Andre Hartford shock absorbers have been fitted to each corner and the steering box and column are correct and original. The braking system is also standard and correct to 4. 5 specification with new brake shoes all round and original front back plates. New finned drums from Julian Ghosh were fitted and new stage III Perot shafts from Peter Butler fitted with new rest back plates. New 21" triple laced wheels were fitted with Blockley tyres and a new 40 gallon Le Mans fuel tank was supplied with quick release racing cap and stoneguards. Copper pipes fuel lines with an electric pump have been installed with the original Autovac fitted but not used. The Bentley also has original twin sloper SU carburettors. A standard 4. 5 water pump and chromed radiator have been fitted with separate stoneguard and the cooling system also boasts twin Pacet fans with thermostatic operation for hot summer use. This wonderful machine is beautifully finished with a double duck hood. hood bag and full tonneau cover.  
This Bentley was restored and re-bodied into its current Vanden Plas Le Mans style configuration around 2007 with completion in 2008 with invoices on file relating to a well known collector/restorer. The history file contains a Julian Shoolheifer Limited report and valuation from 2012. various restoration invoices and BDC dating letter with V5 stating manufacture in 1927. This is an excellent. carefully maintained example sold to the most recent owner by one of the Worlds leading vintage Bentley specialists. The restoration has been carried out to an exceptional standard and the coachworks and quality throughout makes it very desirable in today's market place.
