1950 Lincoln Cosmopolitan Capri

With a stylish redesign the year before. all 1950 Lincolns looked as if they came right out of a California customizer's shop.    The frenched headlights and taillights as well as the rounded nose begin the modern post-war theme.   The example here though. is no average 1950 Lincoln. This is a very rare Cosmopolitan Capri.   509 Capris were built for 1950.   They were available only as a two-door sedan.   This car was Ford Motor Company's answer to General Motor's coming out with the hard top in 1949.   As Ford had no pillarless body ready for production they modified the two-door Cosmopolitan to compete with GM's hard tops.   The Capri has a stainless steel strip covering this sedan's center pillar.   It also has a vinyl top. chrome spears over the rear wheels and a convertible style interior.

The Lincoln has a wonderful running 337 cubic inch flathead V8 hooked to a hydra matic automatic transmission.   The car is heavily equipped with items such as hydraulic windows. a radio. locking gas door and wide white wall tires in addition to the special Capri features listed above.   The car shows 27. 00 miles. which are believed to be original.   Adorned in Bonita Blue with a dark blue vinyl top and harmonizing grey and blue interior the car would be at home at the country club. the yacht club or as a valued addition to any substantial Lincoln collection.    The car starts. runs and drives superbly.   It cruises at highway speeds with ease.    The exterior. interior engine bay. trunk and underside are all in fabulous shape.   The car has been converted to a 12-volt electrical system.   The tires although functioning perfectly are rather old.   There is a small dent in the rear bumper.   A bit of staining exists on the headliner near the rear windows.   The chrome on the hood ornament is a bit thin.

  This car having the most modern incarnation of the flathead engine. a hydra matic transmission. very comfortable seating and a long wheelbase for a smooth ride would make it an excellent candidate for a tour car.     Although this car runs and drives wonderfully if you are going to take it on a cross country tour there would be a few things I would modernize such as the tires for a trip of that magnitude.    There will be multitudes on the tour  this summer. you will almost certainly have the only Cosmopolitan Capri.   It is a once in a lifetime vehicle.

 The attention this car draws is huge. The condition. color and over-all style are eye-popping. The more you study this car the more respect you gain for the quality and value this Capri  represents. So show off a little this summer ! Drive to golf outings at the club. take your best friends out to dinner. whatever you choose . you and the Capri will steal the show!
