In the early 1970s. Porsche had designs on racing a turbocharged
version of the 911. in support of which they planned to create a
homologation special along the lines of the Carrera 2. 7 RS. A
change in the rules negated the need to sell a precise number of
street legal race vehicles. but the company decided to continue
with the project anyway - the Porsche 911 Turbo or 930 was born.
The 930 was introduced at the Paris Motor Show of 1974 and produced
from 1975 to 1989. during which time it was the fastest production
car available on the German market. It was based around the Carrera
RS 3. 0. the engine from which was modified courtesy of turbo
technology originally developed for the 917/30 CAN-AM cars.
Initially. power output was 260bhp but from 1978 it was increased
to 300bhp by raising the engine capacity to 3. 3-litres. To
accommodate the extra performance over the RS 3. 0. the 930 sported
revised suspension. larger brakes and a robust. four-speed gearbox.
In order to help deliver the power to the road. a 'whale tail' rear
spoiler was fitted and a wider rear wheel and tyre package was
squeezed under specially flared arches. In skilled hands. a 930
will show a clean pair of heels to most of its rivals.

This UK supplied 911 Turbo has had only 4 previous owners and
was first registered in 1982; however. the car was exported in 1990
to Singapore and was finally repatriated back into the UK in 1995.
This 3. 3 litre 911 is resplendent in bright red and is complemented
by the polished and painted Fuchs wheels whilst on the inside. the
contrasting white leather interior presents very well. The
well respected performance specialists. SB Race Engineering of
Watford. carried out works that. although not an extensive list. br/>included a brake overhaul. new wheel bearings. steering track rod
ends. oil pipes and a service. These works totalled in excess
of £6. 00. The 911 also comes with a UK V5 registration document. a
history file with invoices and old MoT test certificates. the
original Porsche Driver's Manual and a current MoT test certificate
valid until 11th October 2016. Offered with a very
tempting estimate. we feel that this 911 offers exceptional value
given today's market.
