Super rare in original right hand drive format and 1 owner for the last 50years in the U. K. We have the original buff log book and an invoice for all of 35. 00 pounds . It was bought in the late 60?s and even then it was regarded as a quirky. This is a unique car This is a unique car. I?ve owned it for almost documentation will prove. I boughgirlfriend in the late 60?s and even then regarded as a quirky carIt invariably draws comment for being ?charming? and ?unusual? but in Italy there is a far more positive reaction to the Topolino where it enjoys iconic status owing to the inspiration of the designer. Dante Giacosa. who was charged with the task of bringing motoring to the masses for a bargain-basement price equivalent to ?100. The project proved to be a notable success. Introduced in 1936 the Fiat 500 quickly became Italy?s most popular car taking on the nickname of ?Topolino? from the Italian name for Mickey Mouse (literally "little mouse") who arrived on the scene at about the same time and who shared similar characteristics on account of the mouse. ear-like headlamps. Demand increased in 1948 with the introduction of the 500B. which offered overhead valves and improvements to the brakes. suspension and electrical system and a further boost came in 1949 when the Topolino was given a dramatic facelift. as the 500C. Intended to follow the concurrent international styling trends with a horizontal grille and headlamps incorporated into the wings. the 500c enjoyed a new lease of life in its native country but interestingly there are few right hand drive versions because a special licence was needed to purchase and import one to this country. From 1968 the car served asdaily transport for almost 20 years by which time it was showing its age. It was then unused for some years before undergoing a complete restoration in the early 90?s which entailed the bodywork being completely dismantled. nd blasted and repainted . The bodywork was largely reassembled using stainless nuts and bolts. The original engine has meanwhile been reconditioned. During the restoration the original chassis was replaced but some years later the original chassis was re installed after having first sand-blasted and powder-coated it. In recent times a new clutch has been installed and a new stainless exhaust and replaced the brake master and slave cylinders. Since the restoration the car has been little used and has been garaged the whole time. However in 1996 and 2006 it did enjoy successive outings to Turin where every 10yrs Fiat throws a Birthday Party to celebrate the launch of the original 500 in 1936. It is an occasion that brings Topolinos (Topolini?) en-masse from every corner of Europe to enjoy the company?s corporate hospitality. A photograph attached shows a picture of the car on the test track atop the world famous Lingotto building in Turin but better still is a picture of the car en-route to Turin as it made its way over the Alps from France to Italy. A journey which. if nothing else. serves as a testament to the dogged spirit of its 4 cylinder. 579cc engine. More recently the car was decked with flowers to serve as a wedding car for a close friend. The bodywork remains in excellent condition as is the interior which exactly matches the original furnishings and equipment. Mechanically everything is working as it should. Would make a great 60th pressie as time for Turin birthday party again !!
The rebuilt original engine which will help for historic rallying is running superb and starts 1st time . There are no leaks or strange noises . The mileage is all correct as the owner of 50 years confirmed.
The original wheels are all in good condition as are the tyres .
The paintwork and bodywork have really done very well since restoration a testament to a good job . The hood and frame which folds all the way are both excellent . The fabulous suicide doors give so much character and shut perfectly .
The interior is excellent and very original . here are no excessive signs of wear and everything works
