1926 Rolls-Royce 20hp Windovers Coupe Project GZK70

If you fancy a challenge. how about this dismantled. part-restored project. It has been with one owner for a considerable time. and in his ownership has undergone preparation work in readiness for the restoration. Having said that. there is a lot to do & the car is stripped down to a very basic rolling chassis. which consists of the frame itself. to which are attached springs. axles. wheels and a few bits & pieces. The remainder of the car is in pieces. most of them being sub- assemblies. The engine was apparently overhauled by Ristes. and we have lifted the head to check this. It is obvious that the engine is re-bored & fitted with new pistons. so we are re-assured that this information is correct. Various other works have also been done. including re-furbishing of the petrol tank & the road wheels and the making of various new body frame parts. using the originals as patterns. We understand that the car was last used in 1939! Please note that some of the photos show the car as it was before dismantling.

Thomas Ayrton Stuttard (the family fortune was from Cotton Mills & a descendant became Lord Mayor of London) & his brother Henry Harrison Stuttard were keen motorists and fans of Rolls-Royce –both brothers owned Silver Ghosts – Henry with Nr. 1826 & Thomas with Nr 26350 (later found at Brae Cottage in a distress state!). Thomas also owned a 40/50 Chassis 58UE. When Thomas Stuttard purchased GZK70 he had several properties a house in Anglesey (he was a member of the RAYC & owned the motor-yacht Enola which was kept in Paris & during WWII was acquired by the Admiralty for official duties. including river patrol with a gun mounted on the foredeck). his other homes were Moseley Hall. Knutsford which was used during WWII for refugee children from Guernsey and Brae Cottage. also in Knutsford which had been built in 1898 by Henry Royce on the money made from the success of the Royce Crane. When Royce started to produce cars his first trial run (with Frank Lord) was from Knutsford to Beaumaris (day 1) then to Aberystwyth via Barmouth (day 2) and the last day travelling via Shrewsbury back to Knutsford – quite a feat in 1904. The 2nd owner of GZK70 is that of Colonel Edmond Concannon DSO whose ancestry can be traced back to the Gaelic Chiefs in N. E. Galway. Eire. Col Concannon served with the 16th Middlesex (London Irish) Rifle Corps & saw action during the Boer War for which he was awarded the DSO. The 3rd owner of GZK70 was Miss Dorothy Longdon of Marchington Hall. she was a staunch Catholic and in 1955 after the death of her brother Richard (1953) she paid for the construction of a new Catholic Church – Thomas A Beckett Church in Marchington in his honour. the building no longer exists having been sold off by the Church and in its place stands family homes.
