The Jensen Interceptor is a sporting GT-class car. Interceptors
were hand-built at the Kelvin Way Factory. West Bromwich between
1966 and 1976. The Interceptor name had been used previously by
Jensen for the Interceptor made between 1950 and 1957 at the
Carters Green factory. Jensen had extensively used glass-reinforced
plastic for the fabrication of body panels in the preceding two
decades. but the new Interceptor saw a return to a steel
body-shell. The body was designed by an outside firm. Carrozzeria
Touring of Italy. rather than the in-house staff. The early bodies
were built in Italy by Vignale. before Jensen took production in
house; this stunning new car was built from steel but retained a
similar chassis to the CV8. It also shared the same Chrysler 383
cubic inch (6. 76cc) V8 engine and Torqueflite automatic
transmission. The '67 Interceptor rocketed Jensen into
international recognition with stars of stage and screen.

This truly is a very special Mk. I Interceptor; not only is it 1
of just 46 left hand drive Mk. I models manufactured. but it was
the personal transport of the extremely famous author and
international playboy Harold Robbins. One of the best-selling
writers of all time. he penned over 25 best-sellers. selling over
750 million copies in 32 languages. However. it wasn't only
Robbins' books that made him famous but his hedonistic lifestyle
also became a source of notoriety. The Jensen was his personal
transport for around 20 years and could often be seen on the South
of France/ Monaco scene. parked in the various harbours next to his
private yacht (as seen in the photographs); in fact the car still
sports a 'Port Pierre Canto' parking sticker on the windscreen.
Robbins loved the Jensen so much he sent it back to the Jensen
factory circa 1976 for a refurbishment and he often used a picture
of him sitting on the front of a Jensen on the dust covers of his
books.

A lefthand drive example. this Jensen has some very interesting
features; from its yellow Marchal head lights. air conditioning. a
metal sunroof as specified by the author and. uniquely. it has a
dash mounted Dictaphone in which Harold Robbins would dictate
chapters of his latest best seller. Supplied with a great history
file and a full year's MoT test certificate. we are advised the
Jensen will be registered on UK number plates prior to the auction.
Finished in coral red with tan leather trim. this iconic car is
described as driving with no known faults. Interceptors are
aesthetically very handsome vehicles; a good early example such as
this. with a very interesting history. is sure to appeal to
collectors and enthusiasts alike.
