For sale by auction on Saturday 28 November 2015 with Historics at Brooklands. Brooklands Motor Racing Circuit. Weybridge. Surrey. Call 01753 639170
Introduced in October 1975 at the Paris Salon. the 308GTB was an
important car not just for Ferrari but for stylists Pininfarina as
well. Keen to re-establish their monopoly on the Prancing Horse. br/>they strove to produce a truly iconic design. In the eyes of many. br/>they succeeded and certainly Maranello have not strayed since.
Initially clad with glassfibre panels the 308GTB adopted steel
bodywork in 1977. Carrying its transversely-mounted 3. 0 litre. V8
engine and five-speed manual gearbox amidships. the model's
excellent handling was extensively praised by the contemporary
motoring press. Gaining a 'Spider' sibling two years after launch. br/>growing environmental concerns saw the 'junior' supercar adopt
Bosch fuel injection in March 1981 at the cost of some forty
horsepower. Worried about the consequent loss of performance. br/>Maranello executive. Eugenio Alzati. resolved to give the 90-degree
'quad-cam' 2926cc unit its teeth back. Announced in October 1982. br/>the new QV or 'quattrovalvole' variant was a revelation. Sporting -
as its name suggests - four-valve cylinder heads. it was credited
with developing some 240bhp and 192lbft of torque. Emissions
friendly. it nevertheless boasted less noise. more power and better
throttle response than its predecessor. Reputedly capable of
0-60mph in 5. 7 seconds and 158mph. the QV cars once again had the
raw speed to match their sublime looks. The new model could be
recognised by the addition of a slim louvered panel in the front
lid to aid radiator exhaust air exit. power operated mirrors
carrying a small enamel Ferrari badge and a redesigned radiator
grille with rectangular driving lights on each side. The interior
also received some minor updates. such as a satin black three spoke
steering wheel with triangular centre and cloth seat centres became
available as an option to the standard full leather.

Originally a righthand drive example supplied by Greypaul. this
Quattrovalvole was purchased by the vendor in 2008 and subsequently
restored over a number of years. The body. drivetrain and engine
were all overhauled with new paint and replacement parts
wherever required. The interior is in excellent condition and it
sits on slightly larger. although genuine. wheels and tyres. The
original are also included in the sale. The extremely low mileage
recorded is believed to be genuine and checks correctly against
older paperwork and receipts. It comes complete with an MoT test
certificate valid until September 2016 with no advisories as well
as its most recent outing at the 2012 Ferrari Owners' Club Concours
D'elegance where it scored 82. 89%. The service history book is also
including showing regular visits during the first five years of its
life. Specialist maintenance then took over and just this month it
underwent a full major service (with cambelts) at Ferrari
specialist. Autofficina in Surrey. This much loved example is
priced competitively and represents the most advanced 'four valves
per cylinder' technology to go into this model not to mention one
of the most provocative profiles in Ferrari's design history.
