1939 Rolls-Royce Wraith Park Ward Saloon WHC37

A lovely example of a traditional saloon of the late 1930s. in delightful. clean. tidy and sound condition. nicely finished in black. with superb chrome work. including the impressive set of correct lamps & horns. The interior is very appealing mid-brown leather in good condition throughout. and the whole car has an air of quality about it. The car has been in Canada and the USA since 1969. and comes with a considerable bundle of history. invoices. etc. from then until the present day. and some from earlier. Now back in its home country. with the original 1939 registration number re-allocated. offered serviced. prepared and MoT tested for the first time since 1968! A well-proportioned. spacious and comfortable car. ideal for relaxed touring as well as local runs. club events. etc.

Snippets: Haslam & Gabriel :
Victor Ronald Haslam (1905/50) was the grandson of Sir Alfred Seale Haslam (1844/1927) MP. foundry owner. engineer & inventor. In 1894 Sir Haslam patented a new type of compressor using ammonia – this enabled the refrigerated transport of food in ships around the world. especially meat from the Americas & the colonies. Sir Alfred had 3 sons – 2 of which pre-deceased him – Alfred (Victor's father) in 1907 aged 30 leaving a young wife & child; William in 1917 aged 27 during WWI and. the 3rd son Eric served alongside his brother William during WWI in the same artillery unit. Eric Halsam took over the family interests after the death of his father and remained at the helm until 1967. The company manufacture ice-making plants which were installed in America. Australia & India to name a few locations. they later branched into Brewing. Sugar. Air conditioning. There are many lanes. roads. streets etc throughout Derbyshire named after the Haslam family & I wonder if the motorcyclist “Rocket” Ron Haslam is related to them? A later owner with a modern day famous family connection is Christopher Gabriel of Gabriel & Wade. Timber Merchants of Aldwych House. London. This company was formed in 1770 by Christopher Gabriel as a “plane maker” & the firm was then handed down the generations with their product line changing & branching out into mirrors. chairs & timber import/export. At one stage the firm was so large that it held Gabriel's Wharf in Lambeth which they leased from the Duchy of Cornwall. From 1770 until 1968 the firm's London locations included: Albermarle Street (1770/4). Golden Lane (1774/9). 100 Old Street (1779/94). 31-32 Banner Street. (1797-1814). Commercial Road. (1815-1919). Aldwych House. (1919-1961) & 6 John's Street. Holborn (1961-1968). A direct descendant of Christopher Gabriel is none other than Peter Gabriel of Genesis!
