1949 is one of the most important Cadillacs ever produced. Not only was it the new streamlined  post war body style but it was powered by one of the finest overhead valve V8s ever produced to date. So powerful and dependable was this new overhead valve V8. Briggs Cunningham's "stock" entries in the Mexican Road Race surpassed many of the high performance exotics.

 

 

This Cadillac represents a time when movie stars and persons of notority and wealth drove such a fine motorcar. One can still imagine Clark Gable or Maryln Monroe cruizing down Hollywood  Boulavard waving to adoring fans. You too can relive those days without having to mortgage the family homestead. This car is going to be offered for sale for less than you would spend on some of today's newer semi luxury cars.  Most of todays cars have no personality and can depreciate almost faster than you can drive them as long as you have a certified dealer mechanic for repairs. Buy this beauty and remember when times were not so complicated. Times when the local gas station could work on your car without the help of space aged computers.

 

 

This car was attractively mostly "restored" back in the 1980s by respected Cadillac collector Dale Finstrom. At that time the black finish was professionally redone. nbsp;much of the chrome rechromed. top replaced. original red leather and vinyl interior partially redone and carpets replaced.  We understand the motor was previously rebuilt (still sounds great) but can not document when it was redone or by whom. The original hubcaps are in the trunk and should be redone or replaced. The chrome strips on the rear quarter pannels were lost by the rechromer years ago. The wide whites still look impressive and we understand two are older and 2 were replaced by Mr Finstrom. It's still a head turner that will be a real beauty with some additional freshing up at your convenience.

 

Mr Finstrom believed the mileage was actual and the car looks like it could be a low mileage vehicle. We can not guarantee the miles on a car some 6 decades from new so remember its being offered as miles unknown.  The car has been stored locally along with others since the museum closed. If you are seeking a particular car (mostly GMs. Packard. nbsp;Chrysler. Lincoln and other big cars). contact us and if we have what you want. will put it on Ebay for your bidding pleasure!

 

We have a u-tube of this car being started and driven to the street in June 2012 should someone want to see and hear the car in action. It was being run off a borrowed battery and small red gas can so not to get any old gas from the tank. Battery and gas can belong to the retired mechanic and are not included in the sale.  The brakes will need repaired as will the power windows and power top. The spare tire and jack MAY be somewhere and if we find them by time car is picked up will include but if not found by then. no allowance will be made.

 

FYI: In reviewing what other 1949 Cadillac convertibles were offered on the major collector car auctions over the past 5 years. only 14 were offered OF WHICH THE LOWEST PRICE WAS $52. 00 AT A RM AUCTION WITH AT LEAST 4 MORE SELLING FOR $99. 00 AND MORE ($99. 00. 126. 00. 132. 00 & LASTLY ONE FOR $154. 00 AT THE WAYNE DAVIS AUCTION. NOTE: If you want to view this car in person. it is stored at a non-family owned area warehouse facility only available between 10-3 weekdays with a 1 day advance notice so someone from the facility can be available. Vehicles are not all located at same location but many can be viewed by appointment at the  Rockford  locations  located about 100 miles from Chicago. Madison/Milwaukee. Wisconsin. Quad Cities. Peoria. or Bloomington. IL. Due to age. health limitations of the semi retired management and limited personnel. vehicles are available to be viewed Monday through Friday only (sometimes on Saturday but no weekend pick ups) with an advance. confirmed appointment absolutely necessary.
