1969 Lotus Elan Series 4 Convertable Roadster 34k original miles for sale

I am selling my 1969 Lotus Elan with I believe is 34. XX original miles.   I bought this car from the original family since the original owners passed away a few years ago.   The surviving family members said that this car has spent its entire life in Washington and just recently sat in a barn here in Oregon.   They have also stated that the miles are actual.   The last time this car was on the road according to records that I received was 1990.

Please be aware that I am not a Lotus expert and do not know much about these cars.   The car does run good. gauges all work. lights work-including back-up. headlights go up and down properly. engine starts easily and idles great.   There is no smoke ever out of the engine-strong compression in all cylinders!  The car makes no strange noises.   The windows go up and down. but the driver's window is fairly slow.   All the idiot lights work. and the glass is original and in exceptional condition.    The dash pad is perfect.   The wood dash has a few cracks but not that bad-please see photo.   The rest of the interior is original and actually very nice. no tears in seats.   The center console cover is held on by Velcro.   Really. the interior does not need much attention unless a person is going to do a complete restoration.    The odometer. speedometer and trip odometer work as designed and the tachometer functions as new…no fluttering.

The car drives good. not as much power as I would hope for. but it drives nice. smooth and tracks straight.   Brakes feel good. for non-power brakes. and there is no noise or pulsating when in use.   The clutch cylinder and slave cylinder were replaced and there might be air still in the line but it seems to get better as I drive it.   The engage point can be all the way down the floor at times and higher the next time. but does function correctly.   I have also installed an alternator conversion (I do have the original generator). new pertronix distributor. new battery. new fuel pump. and re-cored the original radiator with added cooling capacity.   The fuel tank was also taken out and cleaned. which after completing there are no gas leaks.   The wheels were powder coated the original color and new tires were installed.   Truthfully I have only driven this car about 20 miles since completing all these items.   Hopefully. a true Lotus fan can take this car to the next level or drive it just the way it is.   Paint quality is fair at best.   At 10 feet it looks great.   It has lots of small bubbles and small cracks.   I filled paint chips mostly around the wheel wells.   Most spider cracks are what I would say are stress cracks.    The door fit on the body is the best I have ever seen in a Elan - I would say a perfect fit.

The underside of the Elan is very clean and straight.   The frame has no rust and holds vacuum for the lights without issue.   The shocks are good and in my non-expert opinion. look good under there.   It does have what I understand is the common Lotus oil drip.   I am not sure if it is excessive or not.   It only seems to drip right after driving and very minimal if the car just sits.

The Lotus comes with two workshop manuals. a new Robbins soft top (see photo). some original parts. spare tire. original jack. tire cover and other parts.

What the car needs:  It does have an exhaust leak between the exhaust manifold and the first twin pipe coming down.   The rest of the exhaust is stainless and in good condition.   It needs a radio to cover the wood dash.   Presently the hole is covered with a homemade insert.   The carpet is original and slightly worn on the driver's sill edge but in otherwise good condition.   Anything else it might need is not obvious to me.   It will make someone a great “driver” Lotus.   Remember that this is a 44 year old car and even though it has low miles on it. it has the common needs of an old car.

I will sell and help ship (at buyer's expense. of course) anywhere overseas. but will wait until the funds have completely funded before releasing title and car.   If you have a feedback of less than 10. please contact me first BEFORE bidding or I reserve the right to cancel the bid.

If you have any questions. please feel free to contact me through e-mail or phone at 503-309-4765.   If you live locally. also feel free to come by for a look.   I am in the South Portland. Oregon area near Wilsonville.

Thanks!
