Bentley Turbo R

The Bentley Turbo R was introduced in March 1985 and built upon the success of the Mulsanne Turbo - the first model in which Bentley broke away from badge-engineered Rolls-Royce cars. The 1985 Turbo R added significantly improved road-holding and handling to cope with the additional power.

This Turbo R. which is said by the vendor. to be a very good example of the newly-introduced model (which remained badged as Mulsanne Turbo until 1987). was sent at build to Mulliners for addition of various expensive options. which include:

Rear compartment TV console; Boot compartment champagne cooler;

Leather headlining and body-themed contrasting leather tops to interior door handles and arm rests.

A comprehensive documentation package is said to be included with this sale. including all handbooks and service record. original 1985 brochures and the 1985 price list. The history of the car shows Bentley services at: 4. 05. 6. 90. 12. 74. 18. 59 & 24. 96 miles and Bentley specialist services at: 31. 90. 40. 88. 46. 06. 54. 33. 62. 19 & 62. 27 miles. The car was then laid up for much of its life. from 1989 to 2012. whereupon the current owner undertook a comprehensive mechanical. electrical and coachwork restoration and recommissioning. for which a folio of photographic and invoice record is included. Among other work in this restoration to original model specification were included:

Overhaul of front and rear suspension. including replacement of rear swinging arms. front shock absorbers. spheres and bushes F&R;

Recommissioning of power steering;

Conversion of air conditioning to R134A with new compressor;

Full service by Bentley specialist;

All five wheels reconditioned;

Full body restoration with steel repairs and full coachwork repaint;

Conversion of Champagne cooler to modern refrigeration technology;

Conversion of TV console to digital TV and amplifier. Period radio fitted;

Remanufacture of turbocharger and full tune of carburettor;

Remanufacture of alternator.

A full set of tools and two sets of car and wheel keys are provided.

The vendor says that this interesting car drives extremely well and handles a sporting driving style extremely well. yet still improving upon its originally-specified fuel economy. Your purchase should provide an excellent car for enjoying modern classic Bentley motoring at the entry level.
