Standard Features 3. 5L Inline-6. DOHC. 12-valve. triple Weber carburetors. 220hp Double wishbone front suspension Gauges (Water. Fuel. Oil Pressure)Power Windows Radio AM 101*1806 was. according to the Maserati Certificate of Origin. completed in September 1961. Originally White it was delivered ironically to a Signore Albino. There is currently no documentation available regarding when or by whom it was imported into the United States. In March of 1980 the car was in Seattle and had been partially stripped as a donor car for another project. Mr. Selby a mechanical engineer and commercial airline pilot purchased the car and an extensive supply of spare parts and brought the car to Vancouver. The car sat for 10 years before Mr. Selby could complete a proper restoration shop and begin the 8 year process of bringing 1806 back to life. This was a meticulous restoration documented with over 400 photos of the entire process.

A rotisserie was custom built to accommodate the body and chassis welding and reconstruction process. All floorboards. trunk and battery-box panels. the sheet metal box-beam sills and corroded tubing were replaced. Finally the whole structure was rust proofed and given several coats of epoxy primer. Two years was spent on this process.
The body was repaired. refitted and made into an integral structure using the traditional methods. Substituting modern materials without detracting from originality enhanced the corrosion resistance. The preliminary body prep was then done. including re-coating the entire underside of the skin with tar after the fashion of the original “Superleggera” construction.

With the body mounted on a set of trestles atop a castered dolly the refurbished suspension and fuel tank were installed and new systems accessories such as fuel and brake lines. and battery cable. which passes through the chassis to the trunk cavity. were added.

The engine was rebuilt using the best components from several boxes of parts from three or four engines which came with the purchase. New pistons. rings. pins. bearings. seals and gaskets went into a pristine block after all reciprocating components had been magnafluxed and balanced. The Webers were stripped to bare castings and then glass-beaded to new condition and all internal components were replaced. The number of the engine block in the car is 1188. The block that was in the car when acquired in 1980 was number 1041 and has sump number 1036. AM*101*1806 is listed as having engine number 101*1806 however there are no Maserati records to confirm this. It is believed that of the engines were numbered consecutively and since all of the coupes had even numbers (making 1806 the 903rd coupe built - spyders were all odd numbered) engines in the 850 to 1100 range would probably have been available for this car and making engine 1188 certainly period correct.

The aluminum rims required welding and refinishing and upon completion Mr. Selby was able to choose the five immaculate wheels which are on the car and then mounted new Pirelli Cinturato restoration tires on them.

The car entered the car in its first show in Vancouver in 1998 where it won "Best Debuting Restoration" and was voted the "Show Favourite" by the spectators. It has taken top class honours in every show in which it has been judged for prizes except one. in which it was judged against a dozen other 1st place winners and took second to a professionally restored boat-tail Auburn. 1806 was taken to Pebble Beach for the Maserati 100th Anniversary and participated in the Concorso where the only thing the car was criticized for was an incorrect shift knob which has since been replaced by the correct NOS piece.

Since restoration and under the current owner the car has always been stored in a heated garage and shows as new. The car is a pleasure to drive starting first time and all components functioning smoothly. This was borne out by a couple of spirited laps at Monterey during the Concorso.
