Bentley MKVI 1952

1952 Bentley MKVI "Big Bore" Saloon B166PV.  

Delivered new by Jack Barclay Ltd. to J. Bowlings. 32  Downs Side. Belmont.  Surrey.  Since. exported to California USA in the  late 70's early 80's. The Bentley was believed to have changed hands twice in California before my ownership and I am the forth owner.  When I perchanced the Bentley I was told it had been garaged for 10 known years in California.  I have had it in my workshop for the past 14 years.  
The Bentley retains its original engine; Chassis  No. B166PV Engine No. B83P and British plates MXY 157.  The engine has 88. 55 miles I believe to be original.  I have driven the Bentley only 500 miles since in my ownership since 1998.  I had purchased the Bentley primarily as a very original reference point for building another MKVI. from a basket case which is now nearing completion. The time has now come to pass it on.  
Since owning the Bentley I have had the Clutch replaced. fitted a new set of tyres. a gel battery and performed minor running servicing.  The twin silencers had rotted out due to lack of use.  Unable to find an original pair to replace them. the twin pipes go into one single exhaust pipe at the rear.  The Chassis is very sound and well protected all-b-it with a little help from the Central Chassis lubrication system which may be considered to be from over zealous use of the pump.
I believe. Originally painted in green livery. with a blue interior.  The interior wood trim is in good condition although the centre dash panel has rather a thick coat of varnish.  The coachwork was subject to a RROC Technical seminar here in San Francisco before my ownership and subsequently painted Dark metallic Blue over Silver.  Although the painting was carried out some 16 years ago it looks as if it were painted last week. which attests to the quality of the work.
This Bentley is in excellent condition and remarkably rust free.  During the refinishing the sill trims were removed and mounting points filled as we're the semaphores. which were replaced in favor of left and right indicators.  The rear spats were also removed.  I have all three items which will be sold with the car.  The spats will require painting to match the coachwork should you decide to reinstate them.
The interior was at some stage reupholstered in light blue vinyl with black piping over the original light blue leather.  I assume because the leather beneath was showing signs of deterioration and cracking.  The carpets are the original Blue Wilton but have seen better days.  Otherwise the interior is very presentable. The chromium plating is original but does show signs of ware. but again quite presentable.
The Bentley has a full set of original tools and its original Handbook and a Service Manual.  All in all this Bentley will make an excellent daily driver and occasional show car.
