1966 Jaguar MKII 3.8 Manual/OverDrive for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.15) based on 241 votes
This is the Mk2 to have: An original 3. 8-litre manual/overdrive. and a late one with the all-synchromesh gearbox. Its provenance is confirmed by a Jaguar Heritage Certificate and its original buff logbook.
What's more. this is a very original unmolested car that has never been restored and has not been off the road for any length of time throughout its life.
Sold new in May 1966 by T. Baker & Son of Reading to Alan Hammer of Camberley. Surrey. this Mk2 still has its “RD' Reading registration number and appears to have always stayed in the Surrey/Berkshire/Oxfordshire area. Its last keeper acquired the car in 2004 from a gentleman who owned it since 1979. The logbook shows two former keepers.
Originally Silver Sand Metallic. the colour was changed to Ascot Fawn at some point in the seventies. The interior is original in red leather.
Over the last ten years its last keeper embarked on a program of extensive refurbishment. Briefly. this has included all new suspension. new brakes front and rear upgraded to four-pot Zeus calipers. new front subframe. new servo. brake lines and rebuilt master cylinder. new radiator. water hoses and stainless pipes. rebuilt distributor. new door rubbers. a new stainless steel exhaust. a rebuilt overdrive. a new clutch. new rear wheel bearings and new rear axle oil seals. The original steel wheels wear recent and correct Dunlop SP Sport tyres all round.
There is an extensive file of receipts from this extended refurbishment along with other bills/invoices going back to 1976 and MoTs back to 1978. Plus. of course. the Heritage Certificate and the original buff logbook.
The Jaguar is on the road and. thanks to all the recent expenditure. drives very well with all the potent performance that made the 3. 8 manual the must-have car for racing drivers and bank robbers alike. The gearbox is slick. the overdrive works as it should and the rear axle retains its Power-Lock differential.
The body is straight and solid. the chrome trim excellent and the interior is a wonderfully atmospheric place with a patina that suits these Jaguars so well. ‘Coombs' style rear arches are currently fitted but the original spats come with the car.
In its current condition this Jaguar looks as though it has been plucked straight off an episode of the ‘The Sweeney' or ‘The Professionals'. It's a wonderful piece of late 70s street furniture. and all the more marvellous for it.
You could restore it to new condition. or you could drive and enjoy it exactly the way it is: a difficult. but enviable. choice. A fantastic opportunity.
