EXTERIOR
The Chamonix white paint looks really sharp with the black CSL decals and the sparkling chrome work. we can only imagine how cool this car must have looked cruising the streets of London in the early 1970's! You can tell from the history that this CSL has never been allowed to fall into disrepair so has never required a major restoration. In the 1980's the car was treated to a freshen up that included a glass out repaint and quite a few replacement chrome and rubber parts before being stored back in a private collection. The current owner has lavished the car with Zymol products and taken the time to ensure the car is kept up to an excellent standard and fully usable.
INTERIOR
These E9 coupes have wonderful light interiors due to the low window line giving the driver a great view of the surroundings. The interior of this car has lasted the test of time incredibly well. it still has the original Scheel bucket seats with vinyl bolsters and cloth centres. the original carpet set also remains and shows little signs of wear. All of the plastic trim is undamaged and the wood has a beautiful satin finish. Additions to the interior include some rear seat belts and there is a period radio fitted that is also linked to a modern CD unit stowed neatly in the boot.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Reading through the history file you can quickly tell that this CSL has always been maintained to a high standard and there is plenty of evidence dating right back to the early 70s documenting the low mileage and service history of the 89. 45 miles. In the 1980's the engine was fully rebuilt and blue printed by the well known Tom Walkinshaw Racing. More recently the car has undergone a full major service and had a replacement stainless steal exhaust from BMW specialists Fritz bits. It starts up at the turn of the key and drives faultlessly with strong power and acceleration.
Having been owned by some true motoring enthusiasts it is no surprise that this CSL also benefits from a popular gearbox upgrade to a dogleg 5 speed gearbox which makes for a more sporty feel and drive.
WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKES
The 14" Alpina alloys are in excellent condition and have recently been refurbished. they are shod in a matching set of brand new period Michelin tyres that show minimal wear. The calipers where overhauled less than 1K miles ago and all the discs and pads have been replaced. there is no scoring to the disks and the brakes work well pulling the car up quickly in a straight line.
HISTORY FILE
This example comes with a fantastic and incredible history file that goes right back to the 1970's. rare for so many cars from that era. The original service book has remained with the car and is stamped up to the end of the 70's when the car had done 39k miles. The history continues with a whole stack of receipts neatly filed including a full strip down and repaint of the body and an engine rebuild and blue print by Tom Walkinshaw Racing in the 1980's. there is also a BMW heritage certificate to confirm the cars VIN number and production. All of the DVLA history is present tracking the owners of this iconic vehicle from the day it was first registered by the BMW concessionaire in 1974 through to the current owner. The owners have included the once commercial director of TWR (hence the links with Tom walkinshaw). Lords. directors and collectors.
The current owner has come from Porsche 2. 7 lightweight ownership and has thoroughly enjoyed the BMW experience and the chance to draw some comparisons between these two greats.
The car also comes with its original document holder and owners handbook. There are also lots of MOT certificates going back to the early 80's to further verify the low mileage.
