Originally a 3 litre saloon. the car was completely restored by marque specialists during 1997-9 as a fabric bodied Lagonda “T” Type Tourer and fitted with a rebuilt Lagonda 3½ litre engine. It has the benefit of the Alvis all-synchromesh gearbox. arguably the finest transmission of its kind available during the 1930's. and is an absolute joy to drive. The car is believed to have completed around 6. 00 miles during the 16 years since its restoration.

The body is of black fabric with painted black helmet cycle style mudguards. To the interior is rich burgundy leather complemented by burgundy carpets. The hood is a black canvas affair easily erected. Lucas P100 Lamps adorn the front. The engine bay is highly detailed to show standards. The Standard Kigas pump is fitted as used by Lagonda in lieu of a choke making starting akin to firing up a vintage aircraft. The dash is of beautifully polished wood & contains its correct quotient of period instruments.

The 3½ litre engine was the last to be built by Lagonda and about 83 were manufactured before the Company went into receivership in 1935. Almost identical in appearance to its 3 litre predecessor the 3½ the engine delivers significantly more power and No 35Z183 is the last known to the Lagonda Club.

The car is in first class all-round condition and the following improvements have been carried out by the current owner to the same high standard:
• Complete overhaul of the Bishops Cam steering box with a new scroll & peg. bushes and shims together with a recovered steering wheel.
• New Perrot shaft carriers fitted.
• Addition of two new Lucas Altette horns manufactured from the original tooling.
• Specialist overhaul of dynamo and regulator and new (old stock) moving coil ammeter fitted.
• New drive cables for both rev counter and speedometer and specialist overhaul of the latter.

The car is running perfectly on the correct Scintilla magneto but is sold with the benefit of a new reversible coil and distributor conversion for use on long distance overseas rallies in order to facilitate remote roadside repairs in the unlikely event of ignition failure.

The car shares garage space with a 3. 0 Litre Bentley. The owner finds the Lagonda far easier to drive then the Bentley due to the buttery smooth all synchromesh Alvis gear box fitted. It is also considerably faster & more refined then the Bentley. effortlessly showing it a clean pair of heels & cruising well at modern traffic speeds. No expense has been spared on this car to make it into the superb item we find today. You really have to drive it to appreciate how good it is.
