This is a superb unrestored original 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL. It has seen one respray in its life albeit very early in its life. The interior and has seen no updates or modifications. This particular Pagoda has its hard top and soft top and both are in excellent condition. It is equipped with a 4 speed manual transmission which is a rare option that was only available in about 20% of the 280SL models. It has the sought after rear jump seat and the European headlamps.

This survivor has spent most of its life in closed indoor storage. Little has been affected by the decades which make it a perfect candidate for restoration to the highest standards should the lucky new owner decide. The only issues that have shown on this car is some slight rust under the front left headlamp and the panels where the floor meets the front wheel-well. the rest of the car is solid. The paint has shown that it has seen an external respray but the aging of the paint coupled with the condition of the rest of the car suggests that this is a very old respray that took place early in its life. There are no signs of excessive filler or panel replacement all spot welds are factory correct and intact. The car was simply masked leaving all the trim and rubbers in place. There is a small dent in the hard top on the right rear and a spider crack on the trunk lid. The last issue is the heater control head knobs have broken off. The rest of the interior is original and is in good condition.

Mechanically this car is superb. When it arrived at our facility it simply needed a tune up and the battery was not charging. At the request of the mechanic the car has been on several test drives to “help tune up the engine” but I think the mechanic just wanted to drive it. but who could blame him? What has aided in the cars strong engine and clear fuel system is that the current owner had stored the car properly and periodically would put a small amount of fuel in start and drive the car and then store it again. It has low mileage showing only 36. 80 miles (59. 31 KM). The brakes have recently been overhauled having the flex lines replaced. It deals with any issues of the collapsing brake lines that the cars are known for.

This car is overall a great example of originality and would make a perfect foundation for a full restoration or quick refurbish to make a great driver. In either case it is a fine addition to anybody's collection.
