1924 Rolls Royce 20hp Barker Limousine.

A truly striking car in beautiful condition. The Barker coachwork has a very very period look & is '20's through & through. The rear window is an oval & the rear body line curves up towards it in perfect proportions. Overall the car is quite tall giving a very upright look to it & a narrow frontal aspect. The car is a two wheel brake model with the earlier three speed gear box.

The car was completely restored & all the mechanics rebuilt a decade or so ago. the body being removed from the chassis as part of the job. Consequently the car is in mechanically superb order having done few miles since the restoration. The engine starts instantly. idles evenly & pulls strongly in the three gears. The car when hot will start of the advance/retard lever indicating excellent compressions. Attention was also given to the suspension & steering making for a crisp feel to the steering wheel & a supple gently undulating ride. The car interestingly was ordered without a magneto. so has the Rolls Royce fitted blanking off turned end on the dynamo. Having handled previously a 20hp motor car done by same restorer I can attest to the quality of his work.

The coachwork is finished in deep Maroon with a cream taupe colour to the sides; again very period. The paint is in excellent condition with just one or two areas that could do with being touched in. but very very minor. The spare tyre sits on the back but can be moved to the side in order to fit a motoring trunk to the rear luggage grid. A nickel Klaxon is mounted under the bonnet on the bulkhead.

The interior is a delight to be in. Rich maroon leather to the front & rear with just the right amount of use to no longer feel brand new. Maroon carpets complete the ensemble. The woodwork is likewise superb having been all refinished. but with an authentic rather then glassy look to it. Twin occasional seats fold from the bulkhead allowing for sideways seating passengers to be carried. Headlining is brand new wool cloth of the correct type.

This is a way above average car & I have to stress that it needs nothing. It is absolutely ready to go & I would not hesitate to drive it on a continental tour tomorrow. Oil PSI reads 20lbs at Idle & 30 when running. I found myself closing the radiator shutters on our long test drive to get the correct temperature into the cooling system.

The car is now on display in our showrooms.
