The Aston Martin DB4 was launched at the London Motor Show in 1958 and was the first of the very succesful DB4/5/6 line-up. featuring elegant lightweight (Superleggera) coachwork designed by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan. Italy. The handmade aluminum bodywork panels were mounted on a steel tube frame. using the Superleggera (meaning: super light) method of construction. All round disc brakes were fitted. made first by Dunlop and later on by Girling. and all DB4s were powered by a new six cylinder. all aluminium 3670cc engine. designed by Tadek Mereck and developing around 240bhp. The DB4 offered excellent performance for the time. 140mph top speed and 0-60 in 8. 5 seconds. The gearbox was produced by Astons' owner. David Brown and a Vantage engine was also available. offering even higher power outputs. There were five series of the DB4. each series introduced changes and developments to the original series one cars. Of the 1. 10 DB4s made. just 350 are thought to have been Series II cars (chassis DB4/251/L to DB4/600/R) The model was aptly summarised by 'Autosport': "Performance. controllability and comfort have been combined in the Aston Martin DB4 to make it a highly desirable car: one in which long journeys can be completed very quickly indeed with the minimum of risk or discomfort and the maximum of pleasure. " This 1960 DB4 Series II has been the subject of a two-year restoration by a reputable Aston Martin specialist. DB4/291/R was first registered to a Mr W. H. Cooper of Worcestershire on 29th March 1960 and remained in his ownership until 2009. The car was stored for mechanical works in 1972 but not touched until it was discovered in a barn. where it had resided for over thirty years. The lightweight aluminium body was found to be in excellent condition with original panels. very little rust and no evidence of damage repairs. It was recommissioned between 2010 and 2011 and taken back to bare metal. Every component was re-chromed or plated and the entire vehicle was rebuilt to original specification. A comprehensive photographic portfolio accompanies the car. along with all invoices for the restoration work. With only two previous owners from new and complete with it's original engine. gearbox. tools and Motorola radio. the car has covered a genuine 85. 00 miles from new and is finished in Elusive Blue with grey Leather and dark blue Wilton carpet interior. DB4/291/R is presented in stunning condition throughout and is supplied with an MoT Test Certificate until November 2013. new chrome wire wheels and new Michelin tyres. The is a fully restored and immaculate matching numbers car in great original colours. and with believed genuine mileage and only 2 owners from new. It ticks all the boxes. is fresh from a £5k service in November 2012 and is ready to go today.
