The 308 GT4 2+2 was a groundbreaking model for Ferrari in
several ways; it was the first production Ferrari to feature the
mid-engined V8 layout that would become the bulk of the company's
business in subsequent decades and was the first production Ferrari
to feature Bertone (rather than Pininfarina) bodywork. The GT4 was
introduced at the Paris Motor Show in November 1973 and featured
angular lines entirely different from its curvaceous two-seater
brother. the Dino 246. The styling was controversial at the time
with some journalists comparing it to the Bertone-designed Lancia
Stratos and Lamborghini Urraco. It finally gained the 'Prancing
Horse' badge in May 1976 which replaced the Dino badges on the
bonnet. wheels. and the steering wheel. The chassis was based on
the Dino 246 but was stretched to make room for the second row of
rather small seats.

This Ferrari 308 GT4 has been in dry storage for the last eight
years. recently re-commissioned which included a service and new
cam belts. The car featured in a small article in a classic car
magazine when their test drive was the furthest it had travelled
since 2008. Purchased by the vendor in the early 1990's. he had the
car completely rebuilt by Ferrari specialists Mototechnique in
Surrey. The car was painted in its original colour scheme and
rebuilt at an cost in excess of £40. 00. this included cutting out
any rust and replacing panels before painting in the definitive
Rosso Corsa and rebuilding the engine. suspension. gearbox. brakes
and cooling system etc. The black interior was replaced and new red
carpets fitted. The speedometer was replaced shortly after the
completion of the restoration and the current odometer is showing
that the car has covered less than 8. 00 miles as confirmed by the
old MoT test certificates in the history file. This 308 GT4 runs
and drives well. the engine starts readily without any smoke from
the exhaust and is supplied with a V5C registration document. an
MoT test certificate which expires in February 2015 and a history
file containing some old MoT certificates. a few photograph taken
when the bodywork was carried out and invoices for the parts of the
rebuild and showing that the car received regular services right up
to the time it went into storage. This is a very practical and
comfortable car and the four twin-choke Webers ensures starting the
car is an unforgettable experience - well it is a Ferrari after
all!
