WANTED – GOOD HOME FOR MY “BABY” - 1986 CLASSIC MINI 1000!

Its been a tough decision. but for various reasons my little mini has to go. The car has 5 months MOT and tax. and comes complete with a all-weather car cover.

I've owned the car since 2010. and over the last 3 years the car has undergone a fairly extensive restoration.

STRUCTURAL

Boot floor completely replaced along with complete wheel arches assy's rear valance with new filler pieces and new hinge panel.

Battery box replaced

Repairs to inner and outer sills and floorpan

Rear subframe removed. cleaned. painted and completely rebuilt

All internals of car have been wax injected with waxoyl

MECHANICAL

New rear brake back plate assy's. flexis's and copper pipes

New front discs and pads. both front wheel hubs stripped cleaned and rebuilt with new parts

New shock absorbers all round

New exhaust system

Carburettor overhauled and all new ignition parts plugs. points etc

Cylinder head gasket replaced

Rolling road tune up by mini-sport @ Padiham with dyno print out

INTERIOR

New headliner in black

Custom made door trims with charcoal grey cut pile carpet and aluminium door handles

New carpet set

BODY

Rust and grot removed and replaced with new steel

Paintwork flatted down either to bare steel or stable paint. whichever was encountered first

The only filler in the car has been for skimming over minor dents or metal repairs.

Fully resprayed. comprising 2 pack primer. with final coat of “shell yellow” professional transport-grade synthetic.

EXTERIOR

All new stainless steel/chrome brightwork

New bumper in satin black

New Cibie headlamps and plastic bowls

Custom “shell” decal (for the paint colour!)

Minilite alloys powder coated in gloss black shod with Falken ZE-1 165/60/R12 tyres

Matching minilite alloy spare with brand new Nankang 145/70/R12 tyre (Falkens are currently unavailable)

Front window replaced along with all new window/door seals all round

I've taken many pictures along the way. I'm going to attempt to create a flickr page for these. but in the meantime would be more than pleased to email any. or take detail pictures as required.

Now. as to be expected of any old car like this. there are a few minor niggles

Speedo cable sometimes makes an annoying grating noise (new one included in sale)

Exhaust has a slight rattle at times

Front tyres have worn unevenly. this was due to excessive “toe in” which I have now fixed by having the tracking adjusted using a laser alignment rig.

The yellow paint sticks almost too well in places – some of my masking proved less than 100% effective. and there is a small amount of overspray on the very lower parts of the searbelts. and also on the edges of the dashboard parcel tray. Try as I might this will not come off!

I have also found two very small rust holes on the inner wings – I will remove the wheels and take pictures of these. They would be a very straightforward repair job.

The engine bay is rather untidy. and would benefit from removing the engine and giving it a thorough clean and painting.

The interior isn't the best. and would do with further improvement. particularly the seats.

It has a tendancy to jump out of second gear

Slight oil leak from the gear selector shaft in the gear box. Replacement seal kit included in sale.

Slight mark on drivers door where a piece of wood fell against it during the recent high winds. I've polished it out as best I can. but is still slightly noticeable depending on the angle of view.

So there you have it. many hours of hard work. sweat and skinned knuckles. and with some highs and lows along the way too! The car isn't absolutely perfect. but it's far far better than many other similar cars which claim to have been “restored”. It starts on the button. and drives simply great. never failing to bring a smile to my face! And its also a definite head turner. I also have nearly all the receipts for parts bought. there is also a stereo. speakers and speaker board and a small collection of spares included in the sale. There are a few niggles which I will endeavour to sort out before the car is sold.

All work has been carried out to a high standard. I'm an experienced diesel fuel injection engineer and the painting was done by an ex. professional sprayer.

I've tried to be as honest as I can with the description. and I have listed as much information as I can reguarding the rebuild of the car. If there is something you wish to know please don't hesitate to contact me.  The car is located near Chorley. Lancs and any trial or inspection is more than welcome. I'm confident that any genuine buyer would be very pleased with the overall condition of this mini. I can be contacted via ebay or on 07792552270 after 6pm. Also the car is being advertised elsewhere. so do bid early to avoid disappointment.
