1927 Rolls Royce Phantom 1 Martin & King Coupé.

Chassis number 61LF
Registration WES KV60H (German. )

A rare two Door Coupe by Australian coach-builders Martin & King. The chassis card records show the car having shipped to Melbourne off Test 25th March 1927.

The car was bought by the late owner; Herr Von Wedel. a German gentleman almost three decades ago & used by him regularly. During his tenure a full engine rebuild was undertaken along with numerous other works. The Rebuild was completed under the guidance of Mr Graham Ashley Carter at Hofmann's of Henley. At the same time the rear axles was stripped & high ratio gear set fitted making the car a relaxed long distance cruiser. The car made regular pilgrimages to Hofmann's over the years where it was maintained without regard to expense. The son of the late owner is currently combing though his late fathers papers to piece together the mechanical history & find the bills for the works done.

The car wears rakish two door coachwork by Martin & King of Melbourne. The front seat back interestingly is configured to fold flat thereby turning the cabin in to a bed where one may sleep. Herr Von Wedel. believed in using his cars & Kept the car in a patinated slightly oily rag condition cosmetically whilst maintaining the mechanics in perfect condition. Thus the pale blue interior leather shows the patina of age & use. Likewise the paintwork whilst not being pristine & new presents well in Burgundy & Black. All interior woodwork is original adding to the pleasant ambience of the interior. The requisite instruments are in their appointed places on the dash.

A large boot area has ample space for luggage & is carpeted in deep blue. A jack. C spanner. & starting handle reside therein. Twin spare wheels are mounted to the rear. All wheels have ace wheel discs covering them. Twin spot lamps are fitted to both A pillars. the better one assumes to see ones way through the outback. A period tinted sun visor is fitted above the windscreen.

The best part about this car is actually driving it. The engine runs in silence & is a powerful unit pulling strongly. The steering is very light & direct with an absence of play & no wandering. The gear box is easily mastered & allows for silent changes once mastered. We are giving the car a full service prior to sale which will be completed in the first two weeks of January. including Tappets & Enots oil fittings. The engine bay is very clean & tidy; a testament to the vast amount
of money spent over the years on it.

The car was Driven all the way from Germany to our Showrooms by the son of the late owner; a journey it completed with aplomb. Currently German registered. we will be obtaining a UK V5 for the car & age related plates.
