History has already shown that some cars are just more iconic then others.   Certainly one of the most iconic cars for collectors is the Pontiac GTO.   John Delorean was really responsible for the GTO and the entire concept of the beginnings of muscle cars in general.   Once the GTO took traction in 1964. the other manufacturers followed suit with the concept of bigger engines in smaller cars.

Besides the Pontiac GTO being one of the great icons. it can also get you membership into the Pontiac-Oakland Club. which is one of the most active clubs.  

When it comes to the GTO in this auction. there is plenty of good news.   First of all. the current owner has had the car for 35 years.   What that tells you immediately is that this is not a car that has just been “fluffed up” for the purposes of an auction but is a car that has been lovingly cared for over the past three decades.

The second thing that we noticed about the car it is a striking color for a GTO hardtop (Pontiac Carousel Red).   The car also sports an upgraded spoiler and tach on the hood.   Even the shifter has been upgraded with a His & Hers shifter.

This car has the original 400 4-barrel and automatic transmission that were rebuilt and only has 3. 00 miles since the restoration.   The odometer is reading 87. 12 and the title from 30 years ago has indicated mileage of 163. 03. there is no way of knowing but it is believed by the owner that there was a typographical error made when he purchased the car and he believes it was probably actually 63. 03 but there is no way of determining this for certain and the car is being sold as “mileage unknown”.   In reality the car has been restored and you can make your own determination by examining the photos as to the overall condition.   The seller has provided several photos of the engine and underside for your inspection.   The car is located on the east coast and we are happy to calculate distance for shipping if you provide your zip code or give us a call 847-774-4857.

The seller bought this 1969 Pontiac GTO 35 years ago.

The mileage reads 87. 212 but mileage is undocumented.   The car has about 3. 00 miles on it since the restoration was completed in 1994.

Original 400 engine with 4-barrel carburetor and original automatic transmission were rebuilt.   Upgraded four-core radiator.

Interior and dash pad were redone when the car was painted.

When the car was painted Carousel Red it was taken down to bare metal.   There is one slight rust issue about one inch by one-inch area that was professionally repaired.

The seller has always loved this true muscle classic with its beautiful lines but says that you cannot truly appreciate the car until you are behind the wheel.   It is a great race/family car – you can enjoy it for racing fun or for a family joy ride.   The seller says that the idling of the cam is pure music to the ears.

So if you have been looking for a GTO of the “red variety” with His & Her Shifter. plenty of power with the 400 engine. dual exhaust. tach on the hood. spoiler on the back. this may be the car for you.   We can tell you that this car has an extremely low reserve and while it is not a show car it definitely would be a big hit and appear as a show car for the folks at the local Saturday night drive in.
