First generation Mercury Cougars may be classified as 'pony cars'. but they have an extra sense of elegance about them. They share a lot of hardware with their Mustang cousin. but consider cars like this documented 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 the "luxury" of the pony car segment. They're posh in appearance. but muscular by nature.


This well-maintained Cougar left the Dearborn. Michigan plant finished in a coat of Dark Ivy Green Metallic and today it wears that same correct earth tone hue well. As you walk around the vehicle. it's hard to spot any significant flaws. The paint is smooth and still shows deep reflections with subtle metallic flakes glistening under that clean clearcoat. Spanning the length of the car is a two-tone pinstripe that doesn't show any fading or wear. and looks like it was almost applied yesterday. Up front is a full-width grill that is characterized by hideaway head lights and vertical bars. Clean chrome bumpers sit at the front and rear with the rear bumper being capped by the distinctive rear tail lamp. All of the badges and trim are present. and that handsome stance sits on very clean 14'' Mercury rally wheels.

Slide into the factory correct Medium Saddle leather bucket seats and you'll start to notice the details of being in the more upscale pony car. Those plush and fashionable buckets flank a center console that is accented in wood appliqu and hosts a storage compartment that doubles as an arm rest. a cigarette lighter. and the gear selector for the automatic transmission. Moving up pass the gear selector are controls for the heat and ventilation with a Philco AM/FM radio above that. Top dead center of the dash are four switches that operate the different lights throughout the cabin such as a the map light and panel lights. With some tasteful 'Cougar' badging. the rest of the dash houses a clock mounted in front of the passenger and factory instrumentation in front of the driver. while all being surrounded by more clean wood appliqu. Tying up the fashionable feel is an beautifully finished 'XR7' branded. 3-spoke steering wheel trimmed with wood grain. Have a look at the Marti Report that is included with the sale and you'll discover that this car is actually 1 of 982 that were finished in a Dark Green Ivy Metallic/Medium with a Saddle Leather trim combination!

Lift the hood on this big cat and you're greeted by a wonderfully detailed engine bay. Front and center is a correct 351-2V Windsor V8. That V8 appears to be very clean and proudly displays chrome valve covers and a chrome air cleaner lid. There is a correct Autolite battery and regulator. and the radiator even retains its correct tag. Power is fed to an FMX Merc-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission and is then sent to a Ford 9'' rear that houses 2. 75 gears. The undercarriage hangs an H-pipe dual exhaust system. while power steering and power brakes with discs up front maintain a pleasant driving experience. Delivering that power to the pavement is 225/70/14 Kelly Charger tires at all four corners. Also included with this sale is a the previously stated Marti Report. a copy of the dealer invoice. maintenance receipts. a log book of maintenance records. and an original owner's manual.

TERMS OF SALE  

1. Per the eBay User Agreement. by placing a bid you are entering into a legally binding contract and are committed to purchasing the vehicle described above. The details of this commitment are further outlined in the eBay User Agreement.

2. Vehicle may be sold by Streetside Classic Cars prior to the end of the auction. Streetside Classic Cars reserves the right to end its auctions early or to cancel bids solely at its discretion and shall not be held liable for any such cancellation.

3. The winning bidder is required to contact Streetside Classic Cars within 24 hours after the close of the auction to finalize the details of the transaction.

4. A $1. 00 non-refundable deposit is required within 48 hours of the auction's close.   This deposit reserves the vehicle and removes it from the market. Acceptable payment types for deposit are: credit card. wire transfer. cashier's check. and money order.

5. If winning bidder does not contact Streetside Classic Cars and submit deposit within 48 hours of auction close. vehicle may be made available to the next highest bidder or another qualified buyer on a first come. first serve basis.

6. Streetside Classic Cars has represented this vehicle to the best of its ability. Prospective bidders are encouraged to contact us directly to provide additional information or answer any questions.

7. Please be aware that all pre-owned vehicles. regardless of age. mileage. or manufacturer are subject to cosmetic wear and mechanical failure. Streetside Classic Cars encourages bidder to have a personal inspection completed prior to delivery to help ensure your satisfaction. Third party inspections are to take place prior to a vehicles shipment or delivery.

8. All vehicles are sold "AS IS" and with no warranties expressed or implied.

9. Final or winning bid price does not include shipping. tax. title. or registration fees. It is the purchaser's responsibility to provide for any state or local taxes and shipping expenses resulting from the sale.

10. We can assist you in delivery through our network of private and commercial carriers. Most of them can deliver the vehicle to your driveway. We assume no responsibility for damages or delays incurred once a vehicle is in a shipper's custody.

11. Streetside Classic Cars bears no liability and shall be held harmless for any complications. expenses. or damages resulting from a failure to meet these terms as they have been set forth and established herein.

12. An additional documentation fee of $199 will be added to the purchase price at the time of sale.
