A very clean example of the sought-after ‘big bore. small boot' 4½ litre model. re-painted a few years ago to a high standard. Prior to this. the car was thoroughly re-furbished in the early 1990's and has now been freshened again. and given a new lease of life. Comes with a history file confirming some work done. and still has the original logbook from 1951. Fitted with black wall radial tyres. which suit the car well. Offered newly MoT tested. running and driving well.

Chassis No. B298MD. Reg No. NAR 867. £22. 00.

Snippets: Ordered by Edward Eardley Russell of “Garthowen”. The Broadway. Letchworth. The name “Garthowen” is the title of a novel written by Allen Raine in 1899. her stories were always based in Wales & 3 of her novels were later made into films – “Torn Sails”. “A Welsh Singer” & “By Berwen Banks”. The house was built in 1907 for Henry & Martha Laggatt. Henry was killed in 1916 at the Battle of the Somme. Edward Russell was a chemist & in 1934 he registered the Trademark “Drezene” for use with his perfumery & toiletry products. Mr & Mrs Russell lived at Garthowen until their deaths in 1963. they died just 29 days apart. Some obscure facts relating to Letchworth are: in 1907 the Russian revolutionist Lenin stayed in the town; the first roundabout in the UK is Sollershott Circus on The Broadway - when it opened in 1909 motorists could actually choose which in direction they went round! Laurence Olivier's father was a clergyman in Letchworth & Laurence himself made his stage debut here in 1925; during WWII the Spirella building (which until then had made “Corsets. swimwear & Ladies Garments”) produced parachutes & decoding machinery for the war effort.
