Project code name 'W126' was initiated towards the end of 1973
shortly after the successful debut of the 1970's W116 generation.
The primary objective was to extend global market leadership in the
sales of prestige luxury saloons. At the core of the strategy was
delivery of improved handling. ride comfort and fuel efficiency.
Thanks in part to the use of new light-weight materials Mercedes
were able to legitimately claim fuel savings in excess of 10%
versus the W116. Not only were the new V8 engines more efficient
but they were also more powerful and the interiors of the cars more
capacious.

This excellent example has the 3. 8 litre. V8 which was modified
by Mercedes-Benz at the very beginning of 1984 with double bank
timing chains for smoother running. Purchased new in June 1984 by
Mr Trickett of Cranleigh. Surrey. he specified metallic silver-blue
coachwork with Galaxy Blue cloth. a Blaupunkt Melbourne stereo. br/>green tinted glass. centre armrest. electric windows and headlamp
wash/wipe. The car was annually serviced by the supplying
dealership for nearly 20 years until the car passed to his widow in
2003 at 71. 00 miles. She continued to have the car serviced
annually. first at Mercedes-Benz and then at a garage local to her
home in Cranleigh. Recently retired from driving. this impressive
example has a warranted low mileage. one family (husband &
wife) registered ownership and a comprehensive history file with 21
main dealer service stamps (all from the supplying dealership) and
in excess of 20 printed service and repair documents from
Mercedes-Benz until 2005 (75. 06 miles). In the last nine years. it
has only travelled a further 5. 00 miles yet has had no expense
spared in maintenance. repairs and general upkeep with further
receipts to a value in excess of £10. 00 in the history file.
The engine is described as whisper quiet and silent from within
the cabin at tick-over. Performance is strong and the driving
experience effortless. consistent with the impressive upkeep of
this car. The paintwork is virtually unmarked and the seats. plush
carpets and door cards remain as new. The navy blue dashboard is
entirely free from splits or cracks which can characterise some of
these older cars and it has done less than 200 miles since it MoT
in May and comes with a full Mercedes-Benz book-pack. virtually all
of the old MoT test certificates. a V5C and two sets of
keys.
