Snippets: The Military Miner: Captain Charles Nelson Hague took delivery of GAU78 at Castle Dyke near Sheffield. During the 18th & 19th century the property was owned by the Hollis (silverware) family who rented the house out to the Kershaw (farming) & the Baylys from whom the Pagets of Anglesey are descended. In 1900 Castle Dyke had been bought by Ernest Hague from the Hollis Trust for £3. 50 and was sold by the family to the Sheffield Council in 1946. During WWI Charles Hague was awarded the M. C. for his conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty whilst serving with the Machine Gun Guards Regiment. 4th Batt. Between WWI & WWII he studied to become a Colliery Manager & in November 1926 was successful becoming a First Class Mine Manager. The Hague family had interests in various mining & metal works including the Netherseal Colliery & the Midland Iron Co.
