This is a fantastic driving Bentley. scruffy but fabulous and drives better than many at double the price!

Facing increasing competition from faster rivals and with development of its ageing six-cylinder engine nearing its end. Rolls-Royce turned to V8 power as the 1960s approached. The V8 was. of course. the predominant power unit in Rolls-Royces most important export market - the USA - so it was only natural that the Crewe firm would study the best American designs - principally those of Chrysler and Cadillac - for inspiration.

Introduced in the autumn of 1959. the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II and Bentley S2 appeared externally unchanged from their Cloud and S-Type predecessors. though the duos performance was considerably enhanced by the new 6. 30cc aluminium-alloy V8 engine. Although wider and shorter than the six it replaced. the new power unit fitted relatively easily within the engine bay. relocation of the steering box from inside to outside of the chassis frame being the most obvious alteration to the previous arrangements. Externally the new models appeared virtually unchanged. while beneath the skin Rolls-Royces own four-speed automatic transmission was now the only one on offer and power steering had been standardised. Immensely successful both at home and abroad. the Silver Cloud II and Bentley S2 remained in production until the autumn of 1962.

Supplied via Wessex Motors Ltd of Salisbury to a G S Royds of Arlington Street. London. W1 in March 1962. B435 DV was originally painted in Masons Black with red leather upholstery. Acquired by the previous owner in 2003. the car has been the subject of much expenditure including the fitting of new bumpers sourced from Jack Barclay in 2013. a complete brake overhaul in 2014. a respray circa two years ago. replacement stainless steel exhaust in 2008. transmission overhaul in 2003 and prop shaft overhaul in 2009.

Numerous invoices totalling some £15. 00 accompany the car including work to the engine undertaken in 2002 and the fitting of an exchange gearbox in 1994. Used on rallies ranging as far as Jordan. Spain and France. this useable example would now reward further cosmetic improvement and is offered with Swansea V5. MoT to August 2015 with no advisories. assorted old MoTs. copy chassis card. aforementioned invoices. a sales brochure and owner's handbook.

It represents incredible value at the asking price and is suitable for daily use immediately.
