1956 Ford ThunderbirdFrame Off Restored Thunderbird Roadster 292 V8 3 Speed
Year: 1956 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Blue Mileage: 3847 Transmission type: 3 Speed Manual Engine: 292 V8 Interior color: Blue Vehicle infoWant a super cool V8 convertible that's ready to cruise? How about one with some of the best vintage styling ever draped over two doors and four tires? If the answer is a resounding "YES". this 1956 Ford Thunderbird is exactly the car you've been searching for! With a correct Thunderbird V8. a 3-speed manual transmission. a correct Peacock Blue on White color combination and both of its factory-issued tops. this car is the perfect classic for anyone who enjoys getting fresh air and exploring the open road. If you're looking to add a little spice to your weekend routine. here's the perfect way to take Sunday drives to a whole new level!
Solid and straight. this T-bird's lust-inducing body reflects a picturesque coat of correct Peacock Blue lacquer that creates a rich and classy demeanor. From its glossy shine to its chip-free rocker panels. that paint's deep finish is nice enough to be the star at any local cruise night. and certainly nicer than the car's original. factory-applied pigment. Naturally. a star of that caliber requires top notch panel fit; and it appears the folks who bolted this Ford together spent a lot of time making sure its bullet-like body maintained excellent cohesion. And overall. the car is a stunning tribute to one of the coolest designs to ever fly out of Dearborn. Michigan.
The Thunderbird was Ford's response to Chevrolet's crude Corvette. And when introduced in 1955. it outsold Chevy's unrefined halo by 24 to 1. Part of the reason for that big success was the car's versatile mix of American substance and European aesthetics. At the front of this 'bird. a stainless egg-crate grille rides between clean headlights. chrome-trimmed parking lamps. an intricate header emblem and a bulleted bumper that bends around peaked fenders. Between those fenders. a classy hood scoop leads the eye to a wraparound windshield that's reflected by a correct chrome mirror. cleared by satin-finished wipers and framed by thick chrome trim. At the top of that trim. a correct Colonial White hardtop latches down over a White soft top as a part of Ford's original dual-roof system. Below those roofs. sculpted door handles and stainless-trimmed fender skirts perfectly complement chrome fender louvers. small Ford emblems and glowing "Thunderbird" scripts. And at the back of the car. a new-for-1956 continental kit rides between chrome-trimmed. jet-inspired tail lights and a second wraparound bumper.
Tilt this Ford' lightweight hood and you'll find a correct 292 cubic inch Thunderbird V8 that's been fully rebuilt and dressed to impress. Introduced in 1955. this stout little Y-block remained an option in blue oval staples well into the mid-1970s. At the top of the bright orange mill. a mirrored and decaled air cleaner draws wind into a big 4-barrel carburetor that's juiced by stainless lines. a small glass bowl and a Mr. Gasket fuel regulator. Atomized octane passes through a stock intake manifold to correct. cast iron heads that are topped by polished and Thunderbird-branded valve covers. At the front of those valve covers. a rebuilt generator and correct fan spin in unison as a re-cored radiator keeps the block cool via pliable Gates hoses. Spark comes courtesy of a traditional points distributor that sequences fire between a modern battery. a Ford voltage regulator. a Ford coil and Motorcraft SIPCON plug wires. From its body-matched fenders and duplicated inspection marks to its neat "See Clear" washer bag. this roadster's bay presents a clean. authentic appearance. And best of all. the 202 horsepower engine fires instantly and sounds surprisingly beefy breathing through cast iron exhaust manifolds and an OEM-style exhaust system.
At the bottom of this Thunderbird. a fully sorted undercarriage houses typically over-restored floors that are bolted to lots of factory-correct components. Nice enough to show but still fully drivable. this is the perfect compromise for enthusiasts who like to display their car and still enjoy the occasional top-down weekend. Behind the aforementioned Y-block. a stalwart 3-speed transmission sends power to a 10-bolt Dana 44 rear end. The car's suspension remains in its original configuration with control arms up front and leafs out back. All of the chassis' parts feature a weather-free appearance. reinforcing the idea that it's been a very long time since this 'bird's seen daily-driver duty. Braking is quick and adequate thanks to fresh drums that occupy all for corners of the suspension. And on the outside of those drums. correctly painted wheels spin 6. 70-15 Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewalls around classy chrome hub caps.
Peacock Blue paint is legendary for its characteristically 50s feel. And when paired with this Thunderbird's correct Peacock and White interior. it creates the perfect culmination of style and sophistication. Thanks to the car's high quality restoration. its pleated and Ford-branded seat is livable for years to come. There's tight carpet that. thanks to thick. Thunderbird-branded floor mats. still features clean green loops. Front and center. a translucent speedometer and cool Town and Country radio look great inside a stainless-trimmed and Thunderbird-branded dash. In the middle of the floor. a petite shifter feels both light and tossable. In front of the driver. a body-matched steering wheel spins a Peacock rim around a chrome. Ford-branded horn ring. At the sides of the passengers. scuff-free door panels center perfectly placed armrests below pristine. engine-turned trim. And behind the car's retracted top. a fully restored trunk hangs an old school jack between a new mat and correct decklid decal.
It doesn't matter whether you're a Ford guy. Mopar guy or Chevy guy. this impressive Thunderbird is one of those cool cars that transcends barriers and has universal appeal. The car's great looks. great performance. and great color combo all add up to an exceptional classic that can be driven and enjoyed every day of the summer. Indulge as is. or tinker with it to make it sharper. either way you'll have a high value cruiser that has unmatched curb appeal and the muscle to back up its good looks.
