UNRESTORED SURVIVOR- INTERNATIONAL SCOUT 800B V8. FORD BRONCO INSPIRATION
**LOW RESERVE!!**
This is the rare and elusive 800B 304 V8 4 speed International Scout. This particular model was built for less than 8 months in 1971.
The First Generation Scouts were the inspiration behind the creation of the Ford Bronco. This was the last of the first generation scouts and is a very rare and sought after 4x4 vehicle. This originally came with a “Doll Up” package which is an attribute of the more expensive factory offered Scouts. such as the Comanche (without the butterscotch paint) or the SR-2. Aristocrat series. Many consider this the 'pinnacle' of the first generation Scouts.
Please see the photo with the parts list and factory “Doll Up” stamp from International Harvester. still attached to the passenger compartment firewall.

This is your opportunity to purchase an unrestored scout. You have the option to restore this scout to an amazing original look. or maybe you'll want to do what I have done – I have simply enjoyed its patina. charm. and original look while driving around town running errands. visiting friends. and having fun in it.
I drive it every week and I have had many a jolly drive in it. When I have pushed on the gas pedal. the Scout engine has responded well and has shown me good smooth power! I feel that the engine has performed very well for me. clutch feels good to me and hasn't chattered nor slipped. and the brakes stop the truck as well. All four forward transmission gears and reverse have shifted and performed flawlessly while I have owned it. Steering feels good to me. It is original. without modern luxuries like power steering or power brakes. International Scouts were serious utility vehicles. not sports cars and it still has that feel. a few rattles and “old car” things are apparent when driving it; although I don't know if I have heard any squeaks. Has a low first gear and was used in the past for towing. The silver rear step bumper has a tow hitch receiver. I believe the total miles on the truck are 138K. That is what I was told anyways. Odometer reading is currently 38. 08.
Dana 44 rear axle and Dana 30 front. with Dana 20 transfer case. 3. 73 gears. per the factory parts sheet. Transmission is the Borg Warner T-18 top loader four speed (code T45 for I. H. )
The battery is a new Interstate unit. and the 2 barrel Holley carburetor has been rebuilt. The 304 engine looks stock and original except for the air cleaner. which is chrome. Whenever I have gone to start it up. I just pump the gas 2 times and it has fired up for me real quick! Fuel gauge works. Oil pressure gauge works. Amp gauge works. temp nonop. Speedometer works. Single exhaust.
I have been told in the past that the best way to buy an old car is to see it in the original paint. since you can see exactly what you are getting. rather than something that has been painted over with various hidden rust and repairs from the past. I thought of having it completely painted. but decided against it. since they are ONLY ORIGINAL ONCE! You can see exactly what is on this truck; lots of patina. some shiny areas. some not so shiny areas. some dents. dings. scratches. some surface oxidation/sandable surface rust. and a lot of character! I don't believe there is any bondo on it whatsoever.
Suspension is stock and not lifted.
This truck still has the original Turbine style hubcaps on it and factory steel wheels. I believe it is very difficult to find an unrestored Scout in this condition. Most of them are very beat up. totally or mostly rusted out with lots of holes and structural issues. otherwise modified. or have been restored to someone else's specifications. This Scout still has its ORIGINAL EXTERIOR PAINT except for some spot/touch ups and full repaint on the hood. The hood was repainted because the original paint had worn very thin. The hood was refinished in the original factory shade of 4357 gold poly that you see here. The outer body is nearly ROT FREE and I have only observed one small area on the lower passenger quarter panel where it is beginning. the spots are only about quarter sized.
The floors are still the original floors without patches. as far as I know. I was told when I purchased it that the floors were also free of rot. I personally have been pretty impressed with the floors in this Scout. in comparison with most unrestored Scouts for sale. When walking on the floors. I feel only solid metal beneath me so I think they are far better than most; predominantly just surface rust. There may be a bit in there. but I believe far far less than what is typical. Please see the photos of the floor and decide for yourself. They were undercoated at some point (factory?) and it looks like there is a tar-like coating still there. I believe this is a West Coast vehicle. judging by the body and underside. I was told there have only been 3 owners. The doors shut solid. rear hardtop liftgate opens and latches. tailgate latches. and the hood closes easily. Still has all of the side marker lenses. side ornaments. badges. and even the original chrome mirrors. The tailgate operates with its 2 stop arm system. The only things I have noticed missing are the right side reverse light lens. lock cylinder. and the center part of the spare tire rack. It looks very complete to me.
Frame/chassis looks good and sturdy to me. (see photos) Rear frame to body mount in front of fuel tanks are intact (apparently this is an issue on some)
The black interior seat UPHOLSTERY IS NEW on the original factory front bucket seats and on the factory rear seat. The material selected is as close as I could possibly find to the original seat covers. The upholstery work was done in September. 2014 and there are maybe 15 miles on the seats. The door panels are the original factory material and were part of the Doll Up package on this Scout. The black dash pad looks good and I have not seen a single crack in it. The factory rubber floor mat is still there. (listed as an option on the parts list) with some wear and tear from over the years. Black visors are still there. Windshield has a crack on passenger side. Driver and passenger door windows are not cracked. nor is the hardtop glass. The passenger door glass sometimes requires a little helping hand to raise or lower the glass while rolling up the window. (I believe this is common on most 1st gen. Scouts)
I found it quite astonishing that this Scout still appears so original after 44 years. and even has the factory horn cap. dash components. seats. door handles. and original AM radio. (radio does work). The glove box liner is absent.
Has 3 fuel tanks but I am currently only using the one on the driver's side.
Please take a look at the photos and if you love it like I do. bid and buy it! I hope that you like these old Scouts like I do and will appreciate it for all that it is! Chances are that it will even appreciate for you!
• Nada guides shows the 1971 800B model as having a good collectible/restored value. so I believe it is a smart investment; classic 4x4s like this have skyrocketed up in value in the last few years.
• Hagerty Insurance said this about International Scouts in 2013: “International Scout SUVs are up by 85 percent” and that “vintage SUVs are going to be the next big trend in car collecting”
