First introduced in 1953. the Cadillac Eldorado quickly became synonymous with quality. The Eldorado was the most expensive car in the Cadillac line-up. with the exception of the built-to-order Fleetwood 75 limos. The big Caddy got even bigger and more powerful throughout its lifespan. as well as more expensive. After switching to front-wheel-drive in 1967. the Eldorado neglected the oil crisis altogether when it introduced a 500ci V8 in 1970. the largest production V8 ever produced. The convertible was reintroduced in 1971 along with a redesign and new 110% proportions. The Eldorado survived throughout the 1970s as “America's last convertible” and was marketed as such. The 1976 model proved to be the last year of the droptop and sales nearly doubled to 14. 00 at a base price of $11. 49.
