If you were to walk into your local Mazda Dealer and saw this car on the showroom floor you would assume it was new.   I purchased this car from a woman whose husband ordered the car from the agency November 1. 1988.   I have the original Retail Buyers Order showing not only what options were ordered but also the purchaser's information.   I also have the original window sticker and the original 1988 Sports Car Buyer's Bulletin from Mazda along with the “Mazda Way” a pamphlet also giving the original key number and some additional information.   The car was rust proofed on November 15. 1988 and has a Limited Lifetime Warranty from the company that did the rust proofing (assuming they are still in business).    I spent a large amount of time on the phone with the former owner and this is what I was told;

Her husband purchased the car. after taking delivery. drove it home with the top down and parked it in the garage covered with a sheet.   He only used the car on sunny days early spring through late fall.   Ten years ago he passed away and his wife kept it in the garage and maintained her husband's tradition of using the car only on perfect days.   She was moving to an apartment which does not have a garage and decided to reluctantly part with the car.   Just as an aside. after we made the deal I told her I was having it shipped back East in an enclosed trailer and would like her to put up the top and close the windows in order to keep out any road dust that could work its way in.   She replied “I don't know how. we have never had the top up as we never used the car in anything but perfect conditions”.   She did ultimately review the procedure in the owner's manual and when it was delivered the top was up and the windows closed. She had the battery replaced March 17 2012 with a NAPA unit and the receipt is here for warranty.   When I got the car May of 2012 I put it in to the local Luxury sports car shop and had it thoroughly checked over including a request to change any fluids suspected of being degraded from age.  Everything was fresh but they flushed the brake system and refilled just to be sure.   The car is as it was in 1988.   I also had the local tire shop inspect the tires and they said they were about as originally installed probably because it was stored out of the sun and within an environmentally controlled garage.   If you want a sample of the air in 1988 I have five tires here full of it.

The car is a joy to drive it starts right up purrs like a kitten and runs along smartly.   The RX-7 is not radically fast but I would call it spirited performance.  In several reports I have read. it is referred to as a baby Ferrari do to its handling and interior positioning.  The car is spotless inside and out. it is the product of a love affair for many years.   If you want more information on this model look up 1988-91 Mazda RX-7 Convertible on Hemmings Motor News website or on Wikipedia as they both have substantial articles on these cars.

Now the big question. why am I selling it if it is such a great example of a classic 1988 car?  The answer is that I am an old dude and have had a knee replacement and the new knee does not bend like the OEM unit did.   So rather than frustrate myself every time the sun comes out I decided to pass this car on to someone who will cherish it the way the original husband and wife did.   In spite of the knee situation I still drive it just a bit every two weeks so it knows it is loved.   I had the car professionally appraised for the insurance company; they put a value of $15. 00. on it in July of 2012. If you would like. I can send you a copy of the appraisal.    It has to be worth more today for many reasons.   There is very little in this ad describing the car because it is AS NEW.   I only needed to relate its lineage so you would know the car is 100% original and unabused in every way.

In New Jersey where I live this car has classic car tags and the $80. 00 full insurance coverage available for classics.
