This 2001 Qvale Mangusta has only 16. 32 miles on the odometer and features an ultra-rare automatic transmission. Qvale hand built the Mangusta in Modena Italy employing old World Italian craftsmanship. This particular example is finished in Tigre yellow with black interior. The unique Roto-Top allows for the Mangusta to be enjoyed as a fixed-roof coupe. Targa or Convertible. offering the utmost in comfort for auto enthusiasts of all types. High end materials are found throughout this limited production vehicle. This exotic care is equipped with a European Ford drive train V8 4. 6L engine supplying the power. This car is equipped with a new in dash touch screen cd/dvd player. as well as hand free Bluetooth radio. A 5 channel amplifier with a subwoofer has been added to the existing Nakamichi speakers and sounds wonderfully clear and crisp. Brand new Michelin z-rated tires were placed on about 1000 miles ago. A Little History

What's in a Name?

Mangusta. Italian for mongoose. was the name de Tomaso gave in 1966 to an earlier version he built to compete with another exotic Ford-powered sports car of the era. the Shelby Cobra. De Tomaso chose the name because the agile. ferret-size mammal is very good at catching cobras and eating them. And. ironically. like a mongoose that has swallowed a cobra. this second generation Mangusta has a Ford Cobra power-train inside.

Alejandro de Tomaso

De Tomaso. 1928-2003. was a racing driver and industrialist from Argentina. In 1955. he fled from Argentina and settled in Modina. Italy. where he became a racing driver for Maserati and O. S. C. A.

Marcello Gandini

Gandini. born in Italy in 1938. was nominated for Car Designer of the Century in 2009. In 1965. he began his 14 year tenure with Italy's Gruppo Bertone automotive company. There. he created the Stile Bertone and served as general manager of the styling house. Gandini left Bertone in 1980 to pursue freelance automotive. industrial and interior design.

Enrique Scalabroni

Scalabroni. born in Argentina in 1949. was an Argentinian racing driver. technical director and team racing boss. He studied mechanical engineering at the Buenos Aires Technological University before being recruited by the Formula Fama team in 1975. In Argentina. he worked for other official teams and designed small single seaters for himself. Formula Renault and national F2.

Formula One (F1)

In 1982. Scalabroni moved to Europe. At Dallara Automobili group. he designed the company's first wind tunnel and one of the pioneer monocoque chassis for small single seaters. a trend setting Formula 3 car.

In 1985. Williams F1 recruited Scalabroni. He later became their Principal Designer. While there. he contributed a substantial part of the six-speed sequential gearbox design that Williams pioneered for F1 racing. His design was critical in the development of Honda's FW11 and FW11B that won the F1 World Constructors Championships in 1986 and 1987.

In 1989. Scalabroni joined Ferrari as chassis and aerodynamics Chief Designer. Cars Scalabroni worked on won several races and took second in the Constructors Championship.

The Mangusta

In 1991. the Lotus F1 Team recruited him as their Chief Designer. During this time. Scalabroni was also a consultant for De Tomaso Guará in charge of chassis and suspension design. His work included the Bigua development; this later became known as the Qvale Mangusta after De Tomaso sold the firm's assets to new American investors.

De Tomaso ultimately sold the production rights to Qvale. The majority of these cars were sold in the United States. The Mangusta is a limited number sports car built from 2000 to 2002 in Modena. Italy. by the Qvale brothers of San Francisco.
