1927 Rolls Royce Phantom 1 Hooper Sedanca De Ville.

Chassis number 2RF
Registration number YT7173
First Owner: The Right Hon. Charles Williams MP.

A really beautiful car in super running condition. A long chassis car sporting D rake steering more commonly found on low slung tourers which gives the scuttle extra length & makes for a comfortable driving position. Featured in George Oliver's book. The Best Car in the World. this model is described thus: ‘the proportions and finish. the very presence of this PI Sedanca de Ville. are truly classic. ‘

This Phantom one wears original Sedanca Deville coachwork by Hooper. the quality of whom earned them the Sobriquet the King of coach builders. The car abounds with typical Hooper features such as the Hooper patent signal window to the drivers door. A hand crank ventilation panel at the screen bottom. twin adjusting hand crank adjusted rear seats etc etc. There is also an umbrella mounted under the front seats where it may be easily pulled out & deployed. A Tapley gradient meter is fitted as is an aneroid barometer and a drivers speaker system. Twin side mounts sit on the running boards making for an imposing frontal appearance. A Brass Klaxon lurks under the bonnet.

To the rear is grey cord upholstery which has the appearance of being original & is in very fine condition. the front upholstery being in black. The interior is very fine quarter matched Macasser Ebony again in very fine order. The wood extends to the bulkhead mounted drinks cabinet. Twin occasional seats fold our either side of the cabinet. A Pyrex brass fire extinguisher is fitted to the passenger front footwell.

To the rear is a fine Finnigans Motoring trunk pleasingly retaining its three interior suitcases. Paintwork is black & maroon in excellent overall condition as is the rear fabric covering to the roof. The car is mechanically very strong with a quiet powerful engine. The cylinder head is of the earlier cast iron variety.

An assortment of bills come with the car attesting to major works having been performed upon the engine including new pistons. a new clutch. magneto repair. water pump rebuild. etc etc. A recent inspection has been done by T & N auto services who summarized the car as follows: "In my opinion a very 'honest'Rolls Royce free of any major defects. appears to have been maintained exceptionally well and drives very nicely 'on the road' & is free of any unusual nosies at driving speeds & through all gears.
