The Rover P5 series was produced from 1958 until 1973. Models
were marketed under the names Rover three Litre and Rover 3½ Litre.
The final iteration of the P5 appeared in September 1967. Now
powered by the 3. 28cc Rover V8 engine also used in the P6 3500. br/>the car was badged as the '3. 5 Litre'. and commonly known as the 3½
Litre. The final letter in the 'P5B' model name came from Buick. br/>the engine's originator. Rover did not have the budget or time to
develop such engines hence they chose to redevelop the lightweight
aluminium concept. Buick could not make successful. They made it
considerably stronger. which added some weight but still maintained
the engine's light and compact features. The Borg Warner Type-35
automatic transmission. hydrosteer variable ratio power steering
and front Lucas fog lights were now standard. Output of 160bhp was
claimed along with improved torque. When compared to its
predecessor. the aluminium engine enabled the car to offer improved
performance and fuel economy resulting both from the greater power
and the lesser weight of the power unit. The exterior was mostly
unchanged. apart from bold '3. 5 Litre' badging. a pair of fog
lights which were added below the head lights. creating a striking
four light array. and the fitting of chrome Rostyle wheels with
black painted inserts.

This Rover P5B Coupé was sold new by Suttons of St. Helens to
Mr. J Fielding on 2nd August 1972. in 1980 the car passed to his
daughter who kept this Rover until 1987. It was then purchased by
Mr. P Collins and in the following year he sold it to Mr. &
Mrs. Reid. Over the next twelve years. the car was fully
reconditioned including being repainted and the interior restored. br/>the engine overhauled and converted to unleaded fuel. gearbox and
radiator reconditioned. electronic ignition. electronic fuel pump. br/>stainless steel exhaust system. up-rated antiroll bars. wider wheel
rims and tyres and a Sony cd/radio and speakers. all at a cost of
over £20. 00. The Reid's sold the car in 2010 to the last entry in
the V5C document showing that this P5B has continuous history from
new. Finished in Zircon blue with a silver birch roof and buckskin
leather interior. this Rover P5B is supplied with a V5C
registration document. an MoT test certificate which expires in
June 2015. a handbook pack which contains all the original
handbooks. a large file containing invoices. old MoT's and other
related paperwork and a box file with club magazines. workshop
manuals and part suppliers.
