This is one of the most useable. practical an reliable centry level classics out there. with rally looks and street cool. this 1968 Volvo 121 Amazon is a great choice.

The 121 was the base model of Volvo's 120 (Amazon) Series of cars designed in-house by Jan Wilsgaard and introduced in 1956. Unlike the slant-backed PV444/544. the newcomer was a modern-looking three-box design. Safety was already a priority for all Volvo models and the Amazon range featured a padded dashboard. laminated windscreen and seatbelt attachments front and rear - a Volvo first.

Power came from a new OHV in-house unit initially of 1. 4-litres. but increased to 1. 6. 1. 8 and eventually 2. 0-litre capacity over the model's fourteen-year lifespan. These were mated to either three or four-speed manual gearboxes or a three-speed automatic unit. Suspension was independent at the front with wishbones and coil springs and by live axle. torque arms and coil springs at the rear. Braking was initially by drums all-round with discs becoming standard at the front from 1964.

Over time the Amazon was available as either a two- or four-door Saloon or Estate. Like its predecessor. it was of tough construction and inherently good handling and roadholding and proved to be a successful competition car. both in the forest and on the track.

The car is generally in excellent condition. it was cosmetically restored a year ago by Bowron Motorcare in Flaunden. Hertfordshire. at a cost of around £10. 00 including complete respray - minus the engine bay (I have all the paperwork to prove this and around 100 photos taken throughout the restoration. plus photos of the car before).

New rubber seals all round. lower door skins. rear arches. rear quarter panels. spare wheel well and a few other spots welded. All panels supplied by Brookhouse Volvo and are top quality. The head has been skimmed and converted to run on unleaded fuel. sports air filter. new head gasket. clutch. fuel pump. thermostat. radiator. fan. electronic ignition and wider original style wheels supplied by Brookhouse Volvo (and new tyres). everything else is original.

The engine is the B20 single carb engine with desirable OVERDRIVE. 128. 00 miles. Car comes with a new MOT. Road tax is free with a vehicle of this age. It runs and looks superb. Loads of history and comes with lots of spare parts; original wheels. spare cylinder head. chrome trim. hubs and lots of mechanical and electrical parts. This car is fantastic to drive. deceptively fast and totally reliable.

The body looks superb. the interior is very nice but original. not brand new. the car just needs the engine bay painting and some additional floorpan work to be a really stunning example. As it is. it looks great and is great value at less than even the cost of the most recent work!
