A low mileage, super clean edition of an 1984 Corvette for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.15) based on 195 votes

This is an “original “ 1984 Corvette. low mileage (54. 00). 2nd owner car. It is white with red leather interior. 350 Cross Fire Injection. 4 speed automatic (R700) transmission. I purchased this Corvette in 1986 from the original owner and have owned it ever since. It has been garaged in the winter and has been driven under 1. 00 miles annually since I've owned it. It has all original hoses and accessories. What is not original are the AC compressor and evaporator and tires. This year. I also replaced the compete brake system (rotors. calipers. master cylinder and pads and converted it to silicone brake fluid.

If you know your Corvettes. the 84 is the first year of the model change (C-4). This one was assembled in April of 1983 and delivered to the original purchaser on April 23. 1983 by Valenti Chevrolet in Wallingford CT. Up until recently they have not been considered “collectable” but this one is so clean and original. it would be work preserving. High mileage versions of this car sell for low amounts but clean editions like this one are beginning to increase in value although few are around in original condition with lower mileages. While it will likely never be “in demand” like the 63-67's it's in excellent condition. needs no further restoration and would be an excellent value for someone's first “Corvette”.

This is a very clean car that has not been modified of cluttered up with add on accessories. It is an excellent driver and the cross fire in injection is smooth and trouble free.

That is all the good news. now here is what it needs (not much):

·      Headlight switch knob come off (could be cemented on but then could not be removed in the dash needed service)·      Right side signal light bulb (interior) is out (outside flasher and bulbs all work)·      Radio antenna needs to be overhauled (I have the original but it is out of the car)·      There is a small scratch (touched up) on the left front fender when a object fell on the car)·      During the inspection. a small pinhole was discovered in one of the mufflers. The pipes from the ending to the mufflers are in excellent shape but at some point. the mufflers (section from rear axle reward) are going to need replacement.  While doing the mufflers. I would also replace the rear shocks as they show signs of seeping (they are original)

·

For the past few years. the car has been driven less than 500 miles annually. In preparation for selling. I had the car inspected by J&M Motorsports of Manchester Connecticut. This is a local performance shop that specializes in Corvettes and other high performance vehicles. The following issues were noted and corrected in November 2013.

·      Valve cover gaskets leaking – replaced·      Timing cover gasket seeping – replace along with crankshaft seal·      Water pump showed signs of seeping  - replaced·      Transmission oil pan gasket seeping – removed pan. serviced transmission. replaced selector shaft seal and pan gasket. ·      Oil pan gasket leaking – removed oil pan. replaced real main oil seal (as a cautionary measure) and pan gasket.

In 1982 Chevrolet offer the Cross Fire Injection on the Corvette. Facing federal emission mandates and wanting to maintain performance. the Cross Fire was again included in the 1984 Corvette making it the fasted American production car in that year. It was replaced by the Tuned Port Injection in 1985.

There are lots of stories about why Chevrolet equipped the 84 Corvette with the Cross Fire system. Yes. there were emission concerns and the government was pressuring the manufacturers so the answer was the injections system. However. GM went one step backwards by including a highly restrictive intake manifold paired with the Cross Fire TBI injectors. Yes. they got their emissions and increased horsepower to 205 but they could have had it all by opening up the manifold. Since then. Corvette owners have figured out how to modify the current manifold to produce significant performance gains. There was also an aftermarket cross ram available that reportedly would outperform the tuned port model.

This is a very drivable Corvette and ideal for someone's first Corvette or a collector who would like a pristine version of the 84. It is priced reasonably based on it's condition and some recent restoration costs described in the text. I will entertain any reasonable offers but am not interested in low ballers or scammers. I'm a serious seller looking for an equally serious buyer. I would be happy to provide whatever additional information or pictures you would like.
