I've have been conflicted since buying this car about a month ago.   I thought I found a great car to hop up. hack up. resto-mod and turn into an awesome Pro-Touring ride.   But after debating back and forth for weeks. I could not bring myself to do it.   I could not add the loud Flowmaster mufflers. stroke and poke arguably the best Ford engine ever. the 302 to 347. nbsp;change the white top to black. change the beauty rings to Drag Lites. add Mach 1 hockey puck side stripes. add a Mach 1 hood. and repaint the car.   The change of heart came when I drove it to the recent Good Guys event and people just congregated around "Golden Girl" and looked her up and down. underneath and inside. took photos.   This car is just TOO NICE to do my thing.   Therefore. I have decided to just to let someone else appreciate her originality. her essence. her grace and just let her be as she was and still pretty much is. almost as she came from the factory and left the showroom floor that gorgeous Summer day in 1972. just as she was custom ordered by her original owners. Robert and Carol Anne.

"Golden Girl" is an all original. unmolested. unrestored. original paint. near mint survivor car. found in a Silicon Valley garage. non-op'ed since 2001. piled up with stuff as if she was just a shelf holding the family's collection of stuff through the years.   The original top was soiled and torn here and there. the white wall tires were out of round. there were a few door dings and the fender met the support pole in the garage.   The driver seat was torn and the seat frame bent.   There were a couple tiny door dings and the paint had some discoloration here and there.   Overall the paint gleams!  The interior is near mint and all the weatherstripping and rubber are very pliable. like new.   The engine is completely intact with all required vacuum hoses attached.   My first order of business was to get it road worthy and safe and looking good before I began my Muscle Car resto-modifications.   All the fluids and filters were changed. including new brake hoses. wheel cylinders and master cylinder.   A transmission flush and new pan gaskets were done.   Output seals. pinion seal and a differential flush with fresh gear oil and Limited Slip Additive completed the drive train.   New Idler Arm was added and a wheel alignment was performed.   New BFG Radial TA's make the car pop with Muscle Car styling. as seen in the original “Gone in 60 Seconds” Eleanor of 1974.   Golden Girl still sports her original style hub caps and beauty rings as driven by James Bond in “Diamonds Are Forever”.   The Mustang drives straight and true.

After the Good Guys event. I went against my original Resto-Mod vision and replaced the Top with a Concourse correct White Top with Glass (not plastic) from National Parts Depot.   Then. I set about to repair the seat. but no one seemed to have the correct Ginger Sebring covers.   The Ginger Houndstooth-style from TMI and others won't cut it.   Like a miracle from above. a local 1970 Yellow BOSS 302 owner listed on Craigslist a pair of buckets in Ginger Sebring Knit from a 1971-73 Mustang/Cougar he adapted.   I bought the pair within 2 days of his listing.   Mustang car guys like us can talk for hours about our cars. I had scanned the local CL for the past 3-4 years and I have never seen a pair in this material in this like new condition for over 2 years! Heaven-sent score!   My upholstery guy is a true master craftsman with over 40 years in the business.   He knocked out the job in 3 days.   Expensive but excellent work.   Done.  The exterior paint was treated to a hand wax with ZYMOL.   It's expensive and really is the best stuff that leaves virtually no swirls or lines.   Golden Girl is 42 year old and I just did not want to risk a cut and buff.   It shined up beautifully with a hand job as seen in the photos.   A couple more wax jobs. perhaps a clay bar. some engine and interior detailing. Golden Girl should bring good times and possibly GOLD at 1972 and older vintage car shows.   The paint and body is very striking. though it is not perfect and reveals "factory" mass production imperfections such as some paint over-runs (or is that factory dipping in rustproofing?) and slight door gap issues. but it is still presentable as an ORIGINAL SURVIVOR car IMHO.   Unmolested survivor cars in good quality condition are just now becoming ALL THE RAGE and just NOW beginning to command a PREMIUM over Re-Painted and Re-Stored cars. It is ONLY ORIGINAL ONCE as they say.   It has beautiful patina. the little imperfections give it life. character and a STORY. it really looks fine to me and the many who have seen it. but everyone's standard is different.   If you must respray on it. go for it.   You should win MANY shows for originality.   With a little more work. you can have a 100 point MCA concours trailer queen.   Golden Girl is relatively EASY to get to a 100 Point SCORE because everything is nearly intact.   You won't have to scour the country for a bunch of hard to find NOS parts.    She still has her original Autolite muffler too!

1972 for some reason is the cut off for many vintage car shows.   It is said to be the official end of the Muscle Car era.   Good Guys car events seem to restrict cars to 1972 and older.   Go figure.   But no worries.   Golden Girl can join the fun. the shows. the parades and the cruises.   1972 was a tough year for Federal Safety.   All these buzzers and lights that we are accustom to today in modern cars. that started full on in 1972.   Buzzers and lights go off in Golden Girl if you don't buckle up.   Pretty cool. actually. to sit in a historically important model year.

It is my understanding that Robert returned from Vietnam and special ordered this gorgeous DEARBORN. MICHIGAN -built Mustang from Canyon Ford in Southern California for the love of his life. Carol Anne.   There is even a special Ford-logo plate on the dash near the radio from the factory that says: CUSTOM BUILT FOR CAROL ANNE - - - -.   I've never ever seen this before!!  Robert is a bit of a hoarder and eccentric. so most records are lost or buried in his home.   However. I found receipts in the trunk that follow their time in Southern California in 1975 and migration to Arizona circa 1979 and then to Silicon Valley in the early 1980's.   The car has been out of the DMV system for over a decade.   If you are in California. there is a chance you may need to bring the car to a local Highway Patrol office for an inspection.   Anyway. Golden Girl sat neglected in the garage for years and years as Robert and Carol raised their children.   Robert supposedly had a history with Steve Jobs and Apple. which we can't confirm nor deny.   There is a stain ring on Golden Girl's trunk that I'd like to imagine was from Steve's coffee mug as he brainstormed Robert's Silicon Valley garage.     I'm selling this car on a Bill of Sale. you get the original PINK SLIP with Robert and Carol Anne's original names and signature on it. and you become the SECOND OWNER if you are the very fortunate high bidder.   I really hope Golden Girl gets into a museum. a private collection or just to a wonderful person who will love and treasure her.

Golden Girl is a very special girl.   She is VERY RARE. 1 of 1 rare.   Of the 125. 93 Mustangs built in 1972. she is a 1 of 1 as optioned.   There is no other Mustang out there. like her.   The Marti Stat Report testifies to her extreme rarity and uniqueness as follows:
125. 93 1972 Mustangs. br> 6. 01 were Convertibles.   Of them. br> 3. 24 came with 302-2V Engines.
1. 69 of those had FMX Automatic Transmissions.
108 of them were painted Gold Glow Metallic. of which
68 had Ginger Knitted Vinyl Bucket Seats.   Of those. br> 38 were equipped with White Power Tops.
3 of them came with Power Side Windows.   Of these. br> 1 was produced with an Air Conditioner.

ONE OF ONE… ALL ORIGINAL ONCE AND IT IS STILL ALL ORIGINAL…

Power Windows are a must.   1964-1/2 to 1970 Mustangs never had this option.   Finally. in 1971 to 1973. Power Windows became a RARE option.   Who wants to hand crank 4 individual windows front and rear?  I don't.   And you. the lucky buyer. won't either!

Air Condition is a must have option too. especially if you live in Southern California. Arizona. Texas or Florida.   Well. it is just nice to have no matter where you live. period.   Very desirable.

Robert custom ordered his Convertible with some STRANGE ideas. IMHO.   I mean. it looks like a luxury Grande model with the White Top and luxury interior with the Deluxe Inner Door Grab Handles.   But what is strange is that Golden Girl has the Mach 1 front grille with working amber lamps. front urethane bumper. lower matte black trim with chrome accents. and high performance Traction-Lok Rear Differential and Competition Suspension.   It's almost as if Robert gave Golden Girl the soft feminine Grande touch for Carol Anne. but sneaked in sporty Mach 1 trims for him.   I guess this car is the perfect compromise HIS (Mach 1) and HERS (Grande. White Top Convertible) car.   Golden Girl is beautiful and graceful. yet powerful and athletic.   Since she is ALL ORIGINAL. I've documented her with 100s of photos. just in case. I found a car I needed to bring to Original some day.   You can see the Factory inspection marks. paint dabs. how the decals were applied. how the Mach 1 lower paint trim was applied outside and in the doors.   The rubber bumpers. the electrical. everything is intact. in place and working.

The odometer reads 1800 miles and climbing.   I drive it.   People love it. honk. thumbs up and take photos of it all the time.   The door service sticker says it had an oil change in 2001 at 1. 75 miles. It's 2014 and she just turned 1800 miles.  My grin goes cheek to cheek.    I'm sure it has rolled over at least once.   She purrs like a kitten. cruises at 65-75 mph with ease.   Everything works.   The lights. the gauges. the radio. the power top.   She is just clean inside and out.   The trunk is immaculate.   Golden Girl has her original full size spare. a BF Goodrich SILVERTOWN in E78-14 size. seems brand new and still retains factory pink and white grease marker dabs.   The jack seems unused too.   How cool is that!  No rust and super clean.   The tonneau cover is original. date stamped 8-71. fits nice and tight.   It came with a Car Cover in the trunk. which seems new and never used.   The car is clean.   The ash trays are clean.   Non-smoker car!

MYSTERY:  This car has the VERY RARE special Snorkle Plastic Ducts that “RAM” fresh cold air from under the Battery Tray.   This was NEVER available in 1971 and older Mustangs and first appeared in the very rare 1972 351HO Mustangs of which less than 398 were built.   1972 was the first year of the full time COLD AIR INDUCTION plastic system in select models before going system wide in Fords of 1973.   I have seen the snorkle and duct system for sale on EBAY by itself for about $500.   351 H. O. owners need this rare part if it is missing in their cars.   I'm not sure why this system made it on this 302 engine.   Perhaps. it has to do something with California's NOX requirement. So. if you find this RARE ITEM on another 1972 Mustang non-351HO car. let me know. I'm curious.

Anyway. as you can see. I have to sell Golden Girl.   It is too rare for me.   I'm a hot rod guy.   I'm a resto-mod guy.   This car needs to go to someone special or a museum of sorts. who loves and appreciates originality.   I need a car that I can modify. run fast and hard to the 1/4 mile track and back.   Please take this car off my hands!
