NO RESERVE AUCTION- Priced to sell and a great collector sports car value. I'm selling all of my Saabs to focus on Volvo's. the Sonett is the last Saab in the collection and must unfortunately go to a new home. Starting bid is a lot less than I have in it- my loss is your gain.
This 1972 Saab Sonett III has a clear Virginia title and 61. 15 miles. Always garaged when not driven. this is the classic car in my collection that generates more questions and comments than any other car I've owned.
The previous owner did a mild restoration a couple of years ago which included new paint over the original blue.  I recently had the seat inserts professionally rebuilt with a custom black fabric- replacing the original fadeded rust colored cloth. I think it's a dramatic improvement. The rest of the interior is original and quite nice. The dash is excellent. Carpets. door inserts and headliner are all very good. A new radio was installed last month.  A Saab Sonett factory service manual is included.
There are typical Sonett rust issues underneath with an 8 inch area of rust on the pan under the gas tank that will eventually need repair- or just drive it as is. Some surface rust appears to be from where undercoating has peeled. The rubber bumper strips have been removed front and back and. in my opinion. improves the streamlined profile of the car. Keep in mind. this is a fiberglass body car which means no body rust. There are no issues in the fiberglass body anywhere though a few nicks/scratch areas have been touched up. Please note the car has just been moved to storage. All the photos I have for the car are posted here.
This Sonett needs a few minor things: the temp gauge works intermittently and I am unsure if it's the gauge itself or the connection. the parking brake cable needs to be replaced (I have sourced a new one that I will include with the sale). the windshield wipers stopped working though I hear a click when the switch is engaged so I believe this is another wiring issue that needs sorting. I never drive the car in rain- or even threat of rain- so this wasn't a pressing issue for me.
The V4 engine starts up easily and idles smoothly. This car has a truly exotic and distinct exhaust "growl" from the Sonett's European Ford sourced classic V4 engine. There are no oil leaks! I just put on a brand new (NOS) FordMoCo carburetor last month which was a direct replacement carb for this engine. The clutch works fine and the 4 speed transmission shifts as it should. The battery is a 3-month old Sears Die-Hard.
Glass all around is very good.
All four tires plus spare are mounted on recently painted Saab soccer ball style wheels with about 75% or better tread remaining on all tires.
The pictures tell the true story. Not a #1 condition show car but a very rare. fun. and affordable driver quality 2 seater sports car that looks like a show car from 15 feet. Sonett's are jumping in price and finally getting the recognition they deserve after years of being ignored by collectors and Saab aficionados. Enjoy the car as a fun driver and a solid investment. The car is for sale locally so I reserve the option of ending this listing at any time without notice.
