CHAPTER 7 BANKRUPTCY TRUSTEE'S SALE

1981 DeLorean DMC 12

Stunning Condition Top to Bottom

Conceived by John Z. DeLorean. engineered in part by Lotus. and styled by Giorgio Guigiaro. the DeLorean DMC-12 debuted in 1981. The public eagerly awaited the vehicle’s 1981 launch. as the car had a rear-mounted engine set-up. gullwing doors. an angular form. and a novel stainless steel finish. The car came fully loaded. with the only choice for the buyer being the color of the leather seats and the type of transmission. Production slowly continued into 1982 until the company went bankrupt John DeLorean desperately tried to secure funding to rescue production. and became involved in a large-scale FBI cocaine bust. The arraignment effectively destroyed any hope of reviving the company and ultimately the DMC-12.

This DMC-12 is in top condition. The stainless body panels are laser straight and free from most blemishes associated with daily use. Panel gaps are tight. flush. and straight. The Exterior looks like new. Both front and rear bumpers and light surrounds are in good condition and show well. The decals on either side look to be original and in nice condition. All glass. rubber. and trim show like new. The wheels are in excellent condition and the tires show between 8/32 and 9/32 of good tread life. consistent with the mileage shown on the dash if accurate.

Inward the black leather seats are in excellent condition and feel comfortable and soft. The leather door panels. console. and dash are in just as nice of condition reflecting the constant upkeep this car has had since day one. The carpets show in nice condition and the interior is free from any unusual smells. Noted issues inside the car include: loose trim panels on either side of the seats just behind the door panel. small drill holes in rear trim. the passenger side pillar trim appears loose. and the shifter slide trim is in need of adjusting. The shifter does function properly. An upgraded stereo system is also noted and is functional. Both power windows do function but the passenger side makes noise when operated. The door hinges and cylinders function properly and smoothly. The doors open easy and stay up until pulled back down. Inside the trunk trunk area is clean and nice. The spare is in excellent condition along with what appears to be the complete tool kit in its pouch.

Upon lifting the rear hatch reveals a secondary engine cover. Once that is lifted and secured the standard Peugeot-Renault-Volvo V6. which makes 130 hp. is in full view. Power is low but the motor runs beautifully. The engine bay is extremely clean and appears to be all stock. Brakes appear to have plenty of life and stop the car well. Tires also appear near new and well balanced. A custom exhaust is noted towards the rear of the system with aftermarket tips. We have the full service manual for the car which is included in the sale. We drove this car down the street and it ran smooth and tracked straight. We do notice an exhaust rattle but we did not try to diagnose it.   The transmission seems to shift correctly and smoothly.

Although this car starts right up and appears to run well. it will need to be thoroughly inspected before hitting the road as it's been sitting in storage for some time.
