Built to full Group N spec by Tim Ashton Motorsport now BTR Preparations in late 1989 at a cost of £25. 00. The 2144cc 5 cylinder turbo engine was built by engine expert John Read and the car weighed in at 1783kg. complete with deep pile carpet. air-con. leather rear seat and even a car phone.

She started her rally career on the Cartel International Rally on the 23rd / 25th February 1990. the event based in Bradford saw Andy Elliot as driver and his co-driver was Ryland James.

1990 Lombard RAC Rally Andy & Ryland were car 86 in the event and were running in the top 25 before rear suspension failure led to retirement.

In April 1992 Gary Lendon purchased the car with support from Stewart Wilson the managing director of SW Autodesign. who are a Hyde based body styling specialist and British distributor of ATS alloy wheels.

Chartist Motorsport of Hyde. Cheshire prepared the car for the team and she was repainted into the ATS alloy wheel colours.

During 1992 she campaigned in several events with Gary Lendon co driven by Anthony Curry culminating in the 1992 Lombard RAC Rally in November.

While doing a small event up in the Dalby Forest a few days before the RAC she broke the radiator which ended in a seized engine. A new engine was installed but the ECU packed up at scrutineering.

A spare ECU was fitted but also started to fail causing the engine to have a misfire on SS1. erratic performance on SS2 & 3. the car dropped to four cylinders on SS4 finally expiring on the way to SS6.

In early 1993 she did the Vauxhall International Rally of Wales. now in Group A trim but still with a Group N spec engine Gary and Anthony finished 39th Overall and 8th in class. The rally had not been easy due to a problem with the wiring of the lamp pod causing a small ‘off’ in the dark from which she didn’t want to restart. finally she started within two mintues of going OTL.

Next came the Pirelli International Rally held in Carlisle on April 17th / 18th 1993. This rough event used up the teams supply of front struts. damaged the shell and shattered the windscreen but she finish 24th overall and 8th in class.

In June 1993 she contested the Scottish International Rally. On SS2 and SS7 she threw the alternator belt. then a rear disc shattered on a 90mph downhill straight resulting in rolling. Both crew members were unhurt but the same couldn’t be said for the car.

With the RAC looming she would need to be rebuilt. Due to the fact that the 200 model was a rare car even in 1993 then team fabricator Andy Knott had to start with a 2wd 100 CD body shell. This was then seam welded. the boot floor was modifed to take the quattro drive train and a fully welded in multipoint roll cage was also added. This is the shell it uses today.

Chartish Motorsport built a new engine to Group A rules giving 280bhp with a 7. 00 rpm limit. Camco 88 from Gorton Merseyside developed a new engine management system for the car.

She was entered in the 1993 Network Q RAC Rally in full Group A spec. Starting from Birmingham as car 154 Gary Lendon and co-driver Anthony Curry finished 75th overall on what was not a easy event with snow and ice being a big problem. Volkswagen Audi Car magazine covered the story with a 3 page report.

She also did the 1995 Network Q RAC Rally. Driven by Paul Cooper and co-driven by Roger Mallalieu. They started car 118 but failed to finish due to engine failure.
