Very Rare Unimog 404 w/ Om617 Mercedes Turbo Diesel Engine VIN: 404114032636 2 Doors. All Wheel Drive. Truck. 5 Cylinders. Manual Transmission- 6-Speed Inventory ID: 032636 Vehicle Description

NO RESERVE. BID TO WIN. MY Toys are stacking up and its time to turn this one!!!

Up for your consideration is a very cool 404. 1 Unimog that has been upgraded with a 1980s style Mercedes OM617 Turbo Diesel Engine. The 404s were produced from 1955-1980 so this was the longest run for this particular body style. however most the 404s were produced with a less than desirable M180 82hp 2. 2L naturally aspirated gasoline engine. These units were great on the trail at lower speeds. but any highway driving was very difficult. This unit has a 3. 0L 5cylinder 123Hp(and a whopping 181ft/lbs of torque) Turbo Diesel Engine known as the OM617a. Most of the population that were seeking a diesel powered Unimog had to go to the later 406/416 Unimogs which were much more prevalent with the diesel engine. Now is your chance to buy a afforable Diesel Powered Unimog. I am unsure of the age or mileage of the doner motor but it does run fine with ample power to propel this unit down the road at 60mph+.

I purchased this Unimog last summer while on a trip to Colorado. I was on that trip to Colorado Springs to pickup a Jeep CJ-7 that I had purchased on eBay. When I got to his house I saw the Mog sitting in his driveway and couldn't leave without it. I am a dealer that sells primarily motorhomes. but I am always up for something different and unique. I can tell you running this unit up in Colorado is much more fun than the flatlands of West Texas. I have driven it all over my area and played with it as much as I can. so now that I have slowed down a bit in my business. I am going through my toys and getting them cleaned up and sold. The gentleman I purchased the unit from did not have any history on it. He purchased it to "flip" from a guy outside of Denver. The title itself is a California title which dates back to 2002. it was signed off when I purchased it back last summer. I assume this owner moved from California to Colorado and never registered the Mog after leaving California.

Every time I have gone to use the Mog. it fires up every time. I assume the glow-plugs either do not function properly. the module to be bad. or it was never wired up on this engine. My basis is the fact that it is cold natured and does require some cranking when cold and even a little "juice" sometimes. I would imagine that anyone wanting to operate in colder temps than mid 40s would need to address the glow-plugs. Many of the car-like functions are not operating properly like the heater. speedometer. wipers. and such. But the engine. transmission. transfer case and drive train all function fine. I would consider this to be project vehicle if you are wanting everything to function like new. It is a running and driving vehicle. but no Cadillac. The guy I bought the unit from installed the massive 14. 5R20 Michelin Xs. which were used then and marginal. They do provide much more ground clearance and help with lowering RPMs at highway speeds. measuring 42in tall! We installed a new electric fan on the radiator as the temp would climb in hard pulls at very slow speeds. it would always stay cool at highway speeds. it should have no issues now staying cool. As to be expected with almost all old Mercedes Diesels. you will get some engine oil leaks or seepage. so if oil leaks drive you nuts. keep shopping. All drive train is functioning properly and while the gears may be a little stiff at time. it has no problems hitting all gears in forward and reverse. The 4-wheel drive works as it should and the manual lockers will allow you to crawl up most anything. This is a fully capable 4-wheel drive that would make most rock crawlers jealous. With the use of the Portal Axles. this Unimog has a ground clearance of 19 inches.

When I purchased the Mog. it had the new rubberized canvas top in a box along with a new rubber gasket for the foot pedals. I have just now installed those pieces and plan on keeping it stored indoors. I have a few extra canvas pieces that includes a windshield cover. cargo cover for the bed(but missing the rail system it would attach to). cover for the top when folded up. and some other pieces I have no clue what they are. I do have the original door canvas and frames. but the clear plastic has seen better days. Additionally the seats have been recovered

As stated previously. I do have a Clear California title for the Unimog. I would like to point out that according to the plate under the hood it. it shows to be a 1960. however the title states it to be a 1965. I have made some phone calls and the year model doesn't seem to be an issue with a unit of this age. Because the unit does not have functioning seat belts or turn signals I have elected to sell this unit as a off road vehicle. We cannot register the truck to its new owner. only transfer the title. If your local DMV will allow to to register and drive on the city streets. well then great!

As for the overall condition of the truck. it is in good condition given its age. There is some rust here and there on the sheetmetal. but the frame and under carriage is rust free. The rust is contained to just the cab and a small spot on the hood. All affected areas can be treated and should not require being cut out. This is not a show piece. so we will call it patina. If you are looking for a cool piece to go rock crawling or 4x4ing. this would fit your bill. Perhaps you are a close friend of Ted Nugent and looking for something to show up in and make a statement. Or maybe you are trying to promote a new business or idea. this Mog gets a ton of attention from everyone! But please don't expect a unit that you can fly in and drive to Alaska! I will not provide a tag for road use. This unit will need to trailered from my location.

Although this rig looks massive. it will fit fine a tandem axle trailer and can be pulled easily with a 3/4ton truck. Perhaps the 42in tires are misleading. when I first purchased it I was uncertain if it would fit on my trailer. After getting it much closer I could see these Mogs are not much larger than a Jeep. It has a wheel base of just 114 inches. Overall length is 193 inches. height is 91 inches. and width is 77 inches. Total bed length is right at 10ft and the bed height is 48 inches tall with the bed sides at 65 inches when raised. Advertised empty weight is about 6. 00 lbs. I am thinking mine weighs a little less as it loaded on my hydraulic trailer with ease and the trailer's hydraulics did not stress a bit.

I would like to state that I am far from a expert on Unimogs and you can read tons of info online. Additionally if you have anything to weigh in on. please do not hesitate. I would love to get more information and be a transparent as possible to its new owner. There are a few guys online selling replacement parts and although this unit is over 40 years old. you can find most any part you might need.
