From the moment you first squint. trying to look at the milky-smooth Sublime green exterior. to that instant you flip the fuel pump switch. you pretty much know what you're in for with a car like this.   As if confirmation were necessary. nbsp;turn the key and the snarling 408 does so anyway. thundering to life with an idle that correctly suggest; big cam. big cubes and long tubes.   Lift the lever on the Cheetah shifter and put the TCI Super Streetfighter in first.   This manually shifted. racing Torqueflite 727 has a high stall and a penchant for keeping the big stroker in the power sweet spot. which is pretty much everywhere.   The revs are there in an instant. should you desire but it really doesn't matter where the tach needle is; nailing this ICBM at virtually any RPM breaks the enormous 295/50s loose.   Hook it up right and the front suspension unloads and what feels like a couple of Gs drill you mercilessly into a Procar racing seat.   At this point. you appreciate the wisdom of the shift sequence; just click it down and spinning tires once again. nbsp;annouce the firm arrival of second gear. followed by third. nbsp;mere seconds later.   Almost 500 ft-lbs. of torque made your launch a memorable event and now. upwards of 471 horsepower rockets your 1970 Dodge Challenger past triple digits . . .

 

 

Of course. heroic hardware is just a collection of pricey parts until the right car comes along.   A professional and fastidious old-school car guy put his heart and soul into this spectacular Dodge.   He's local (to Las Vegas) and if you think we are exaggerating the quality of this car or the thoroughness of his work in any way. we would be happy to put you in touch with him . . .

 

 

His pride is justified. begining with a straight body having not a single ding or dent. gorgeous paint without a hint of orange-peel and showroom new exterior bright work.   A flawless vinyl roof. perfect glass and doors that close with a quality no new Challenger ever had. this hot rod project began with a rare. solid condition car . . .

 

 

Panel fit is superb and all lights are crystal clear.   Handle seen just above license plate area is the master power switch . . .

Ever seen a body so smooth. or paint that looks wet from any angle. under any light?  In real life it actually glows. as if it is back-lit.   And the tires . . .

 

 

 

BF Goodrich Radial T/A P225/60s up front and whopping P295/50 meats out back.   This is also a good place to see that metal and paint quality extends underneath as well . . .

 

 

 

 

Besides being unconscionably fast. this Challenger drives like new with a complete steering and suspension systems rebuild including new sway bars and shocks at both ends.   Power front disc brakes haul everything down in a hurry without drama and if you can keep your foot out of it. the big 408 is well manered.   Violence. mayhem and/or arrest is a foot press away however so. keep it pointed straight and have absolute respect for the throttle.

 

 

 

The Ultra-Lite gauges sit in a custom. brushed aluminum housing with a 5-inch/160 MPH speedometer and 3-inch water temperature. fuel. volts and oil pressure gauges.   Even the lower dash is aluminum around the stereo (Pioneer head unit. Alpine V12 amp) and the heat/air conditioner controls. the latter of which being a complete Vintage Air system that blows ice cold.   Power windows are nice and the carpet. dash. door panels and headliner all look sensational.   The custom console has matching aluminum trim as well . . .
