I am reluctantly selling my beautiful. shiny. red TR4.   With my twin children having now grown to the extent that I cannot wedge them in under the surrey top. the time has come to sell the car to someone who can enjoy it to the full.   Over the last year I have spent thousands. forking out for a complete mechanical nut and bolt rebuild - so here is a chance to buy a UK-registered car (well actually it's Irish. but not a US import!) that will give years and years of trouble-free motoring.   In truth. I'd never intended to spend this much. but took the car into my local garage with starting problems and one thing led to another .

I'm pleased to say that the car now starts and drives with perfection.   In brief. it has has had a new clutch. the engine and gearbox has been taken out of the car. the piston liners removed. engine block cleaned and cylinder head decoked.   The crankshaft has been machined and polished.   New valve seats have been recut and the valves refaced.   The cylinder head has been refaced. the cylinders relined and new pistons and rings installed.   The engine has also had new a main bearing set. big end shells. thrust washers. head gasket set. conversion gasket set. inlet and exhaust valves and guides. a replacement camshaft together with new cam followers. front crank seal. gearbox spigot seal and gaskets. ignition switches. condenser. points. spark plugs. oil pump filter. oil filter and. to finish it all off the engine has been thoroughly cleaned and painted.   Elsewhere. new shock absorbers have been fitted. new disc pads and shoes installed. a new master cylinder fitted and brake fluid. gear and engine oil renewed.   The overdrive has been overhauled and works perfectly. This comprehensive package of work has been undertaken at my local garage by experienced mechanics with extensive knowledge of classic cars.   All receipts are available. contained within an extensive history file that goes with the car.   The car comes with 12 months MOT.

Externally. the car retains a beautifully deep shine.   The bodywork is good but not immaculate - the price reflects this.   The wheel arches and sills are all sound but there are stonechips and minor rust bubbles and the panel fit isn't the best.   Possibly the new owner will want to attend to these minor details in the fullness of time. with a view to bringing the bodywork up to the same pristine standard as the mechanics - but for now. enjoy!  During our ownership. the car has only ever come out on dry sunny days. At all other times it has been kept under cover in a dry barn.   The car comes with a black hood and the desirable surrey top.   I've never used the latter. its just been sat in storage. wrapped up in blankets.   The car has an agreed insurance value of £20. 00.

Viewing is. of course. highly recommended.   Come and have a look and if you're genuinely interested (and it's dry) we'll take her for a spin.   We are in the foothills of the North Pennines. ten miles East of Jn 40 (Penrith turning) of the M6.   Please. no tyre kickers and I'm not offering free rides to all and sundry!  I am in no hurry to sell. particularly as the car is an appreciating asset.   Email me with any questions. and I will do my best to answer .
