1987 Ferrari Mondial 3. 2 - One Owner for 22 Years - 6. 28 Original Miles - Still on Original Tires

Seems like common sense. but like they say. "common sense isn't so common. " So just a gentle reminder: You can't
buy this car if you don't have the money.

First things first:

2) The first question every '80s Ferrari buyer asks is always "When were the timing belts changed?" The service
history is detailed below. but to get that out of the way. they were changed on December 5. 2012 (4 months ago)
with factory belts and Hill tensioner bearings sourced from Ricambi America. They have around 25 miles on them.

3) I don't put any additional value on the car because it was owned by a celebrity. My value is based on the condition
of the car. it's known history. and the fact that it was bought new and owned by a very wealthy car enthusiast who
obviously had the ability to give the car the best of care over its life. I believe this is the best Mondial 3. 2 Cab in
the world. and basically irreplaceable (a car can only be original once). But read through the ad. and you can
make your own determination.

4) I am a long time car collector. a long time eBayer who has NEVER had a single negative transaction in my 12 years on eBay.
and this is my 6th collector car sold on eBay in the past 7 years. This is NOT a typical "dump your junk Ferrari on
eBay" car. I'm happy to talk on the phone. or in person if you are in So. Cal. . with any serious buyers. Clear California title
is in my hands and the car is in my garage at my home in Irvine. California.

Prices for all "best of the breed" sports and special interest cars are on the rise. I think in part because it's a good hedge against
inflation and the declining value of paper money. I just saw that a similar mile and condition Mondial T sold today at the RM Auction
for over $85. 00 (see link below). Some prefer the T over the 3. 2. but for a variety of reasons. many (myself included) prefer the 3. 2.

This Ferrari Mondial was purchased new on March 11. 1988 from Continental Autosport in Hinsdale. Illinois by the
world renown radio personality Paul Harvey. At the time he purchased the car. he was almost 70 years old. He was
over 90 when he finally sold it to me in 2009.

Mr. Harvey was a well known car enthusiast. but he did not have a large car collection. He was once quoted in the
paper as saying "When you have a large car collection. you don't own it. it owns you!"

Mr. Harvey also was known to have favored older American classic cars to foreign cars. His purchase of the Mondial
was mentioned in several newpaper articles in the late '80s (I have copies). In one of the articles. he said he bought the
Ferrari "because of Ferrari's very successful marketing of the brand as the ultimate sports car!" He was very busy with
his career and did not drive the Ferrari much. particularly in the later years. only putting around 5. 00 miles on it during
his ownership from 1987 to 2009. The car was known in his home town of River Forest. Illinois. where he would
occasionally be seen taking the car for a cruise with his wife. Angel.

Mr. Harvey was not the type to modify his cars in any way. so the car remains 100% stock and original. Even the TIRES
are still the original tires. from 1987! The brake pads are original. The roof and rear window are of course original. with
the rear window having the embossed Ferrari markings on it. There are no red painted valve covers. aftermarket speakers
cut in. etc. This car looks exactly as it would have sitting in the showroom in 1987.


I am an enthusiast collector. and bought the car from Mr. Harvey in early 2009. Sadly. I purchased the car from Mr. Harvey
two days before he passed away. That experience alone is a story in itself!


This car has never been restored or had any kind of restoration work done on it. The paint is original. the interior is original
and has never had any redye work on it. it even has the original Blaupunkt radio. It has the original assembly ink and paint
pen markings on the chassis. suspension. etc. All the factory Dinol undercoating is still in place. There of course is no rust.


The car shows essentially as a new car. I do not think Mr. Harvey drove it at high speeds. as there are no stone chips on
the bumper. front end. or anywhere else. The windshield has no chips in it at all. not even those little tiny ones that you can't
see but can feel. The windshield looks and feels like new. All four windows go up and down well. I believe Mr. Harvey
never drove the car in the rain. as the underside is very clean. with no mud or dirt on it. You can reach under the fenders and
wipe with your hands. and almost no dirt will come off.


This Mondial has. what I am told. a very rare option of red carpeting (supposedly very rare for a U. S. delivered car).
I LOVE the red carpeting. and it was actually a huge part of the reason I chose to buy this car.


This car is absolutely spotless. inside. outside. underneath. and in the engine bay.


A true survivor. in remarkable original condition. It is a true time capsule - driving it down the road takes you back to 1987.


The car has received a full engine out major service. including belt and tensioner change. in January 2008. It has been
serviced regularly since then. including new belts and Hill tensioners on December 5. 2012.


When I brought the car into California. I had to have it smog checked. I was nervous about that. as California has very
trict emissions standards. which even the best 22 year old cars can have a problem passing. I took it to a shop that does
most of the Ferrari smog checks in Costa Mesa. California. They made no adjustments to it. and told me that given the
very low mileage and condition. it would have no problem passing. They ran the test. and it passed with very low emission
numbers. well below California standards. The smog shop said the car ran very clean.


Since buying the car. I have driven it very little. Almost all the miles I've put on it are "maintenance miles. driven only to
keep the car conditioned. Unfortunately. I am afraid to drive it. and also found that I do not particularly enjoy the attention
that it receives on the road. Therefore. I typically only drive it once every three weeks or so. to make sure the car stays
well preserved. I pick a clear day with moderate temperatures. then gently drive the car until it is fully warmed up. working
through the gears at 3-4500 rpm. until all systems have reached full operating temperature. It then goes back into the garage. br> on the battery charger. under its cover. That's 99% of the miles I've driven it.


It is maintained. however. at all times in fully roadworthy condition. All of the fluids are changed either on a yearly basis
(engine oil and filter. coolant) or bi-yearly basis (brake and clutch fluid. gear oil). It of course leaks no fluid. As the Ferrari
break in period is 3. 00 miles. with only 6. 28 miles on it. the car is barely broken in. and drives like a new car.


I do occasionally pull the cover off to admire its beauty. though!


Some Fun Facts.

I of course have never driven it in the rain. or in any weather that isn't exactly perfect. I don't think Mr. Harvey did. either.
given how clean it is under the fenders. etc. I also like to keep the car dry. and since I only drive it for a few minutes each month. it stays clean.
I wash it once every 6 months or so. and when I do. I spend an hour with compressed air drying out every nook and cranny. to prevent any corrosion.
I leave the doors. windows. hood and trunk slightly open when the car is stored. so the seals don't get compressed.
I store it in the garage with the cover that came with the car (tan with a Ferrari horse and lettering on front). To preserve
the cover. I put a cover over the cover. I also sandwich foam in between so no dings occur.
I am a car nut. what can I say!

I believe this car to be the finest remaining original Mondial 3. 2 Cab in the world today. It's very hard to imagine one
in more original. pristine. low mileage condition exists anywhere.

SERVICES
All services are up to date. It received new timing belts and Hill tensioner bearings in December 2012. The oil and filter. br> brake fluid. and coolant were changed in January 2013. The car leaks NO fluids. The underside is spotless.
Passed California smog (easily) on February 24. 2013. It has been registered in California in my name since I bought
it from Mr. Harvey. The car is in my garage at my house. and I have the clear California title in my name in hand.

So why am I selling? The only reason is I simply will not drive the car. I'm too worried it will get a scratch and the
original paint will be ruined. I don't like the attention it gets. Someone might look at it wrong. I can't really take it anywhere.
since of course I'd never leave it parked in public unattended.

Is any of this rational? After all. the monetary value of the car is less than that of a fully loaded 3 series BMW. and it's
never going to depreciate as much as that BMW. So. no. it's probably not rational. Rational would probably be to
put new tires on the car and start driving it. Take the car out on nice weekends with my family for lunch on PCH. etc.
Put 10. 00 really fun miles on it over the next 5 years and suffer a little bit of depreciation. Take it to Cars and Coffee
every now and then. Basically. do all the things I promised myself I would do when I bought the car. But. rational or
not. I've come to the realization after more than four years that it's never going to happen. I'm just not capable of it.

That being said. I do have mixed emotions about selling this car. Even though I rarely drive it. part of me says to keep it. br> because it seems like the value of collector cars generally is rising. and probably will do more so over the next five
years as inflation starts to hit harder.






















































Note in the picture below: I received a question asking about the lighter. This is the factory
lighter. but I put a rubber plug on it. The lighter is a weird "reverse" style. that is basically
wide open. I was always nervous something metallic would fall in it and short it out. So I put
a plug on it. Obviously. this rubber piece simply lifts on and off. I probably should have take
it off for the picture.






























































Undercarriage photos. Ferrari sprayed a rust preventative called Dinol under all of their cars in the '80s.
It does a good job as a rust preventative. but it isn't pretty! It is fairly easily removed with various solvents. br> but of course I have not touched it. to keep the car original. It would look a lot prettier underneath without it. though.












An article from the Chicago Sun Times from 1989 that I found. Mr. Harvey talks about how he's had the Mondial
for a year. but only driven it a couple of hundred miles because of his busy schedule.


A copy of the pink slip. showing Mr. Harvey purchased the Mondial new on March 11. 1988. with 150
miles on it. (This is marked up and low resolution for this ad. I have the clean unmarked copy that will go
with the car to keep as part of its records and history).



Summary of services performed since right before and during my ownership. I have the receipt for the engine out
service that was done in 2008. along with all documents. receipts. photos. etc. for the other services.



Books and records. All services since I've owned it have receipts and have also been extensively photo-documented.





Mr. Harvey often kept the Mondial at his second house in Scottsdale. Arizona. He'd have it shipped back and forth
in an enclosed truck between his house in the Chicago suburbs and Scottsdale. A copy of his Arizona insurance card
was among the papers.

And an interesting post I found about the trips between Scottsdale and Appleton. Wisconsin. where he'd get the car
serviced at his friend John Bergstrom's dealership.

Factory tool kit. I doubt this had ever been opened. until I opened it to take the pictures.
The tools are absolutely spotless and untouched.



His original Illinois license plates are included. along with some kind of factory flashlight.
And a shoehorn from the Arizona Biltmore that I found in the car.



Factory jack kit. again of course unused and untouched.
