1950 Daimler DB18 3 positon drop head by Barker

Please note the car I offer for sale is the one in White. nbsp; 2 pictures of two tone cars were taken from Google only to illustrate how much better the cars look in an alternative colour scheme. are not of the car which is on offer

This car HDA937 was first registered in Wolverhampton in January 1950. the first owner being Jesse Tildesley Ltd. span >  then changing hands several times. however. until this year she has been off the road since 1981. during this time she has had a great deal of restoration work.

Mileage which I believe to be correct is 53880. however I am using the car frequently at the moment and the mileage will increase accordingly.

I will go through all aspects of the car and offer my opinion but would much prefer any potential purchaser to come and view the car or arrange an independent inspection

Although this vehicle is now MOT exempt. I will  provide car with 1 year MOT for the new owners peace of mind. additionally the car benefits from zero road tax. I have her insured with RH insurance whom I recommend highly. she is on a cherished car policy and comprehensively insured. this costs the grand total of £80 per year

Engine

Runs very well. starts almost instantly. very powerful. uses no water. does not overheat. some oily smoke if left to sit and idle but this clears quickly upon normal driving. oil light stays out even at very low idle. recently had core plugs removed and flushed through fully. all waterways are perfectly clear

Gearbox

Wilson pre select. hard in some ways to undersand how the Wilson gearbox and Fluid Flywheel disappeared when they did. they are far superior to manual boxes of the day and to the automatics which followed for many years. this gearbox works well. if rushing changes you can occasionally have a false neutral but taking your time seems to stop this happening at all. nbsp; I would describe as very good. fluid flywheel leaks a little which is common. will require topping up with standard engine oil from time to time.

Steering and Supension

The steering is notchy when the car is stationary. however on the move it is not much of an issue. the car's steering is no worse than most classics on the road. however I do feel it would benefit from a steering box overhaul. suspension is very nice. in fact one of the nicest old cars I have driven in this respect. the car is weighted nicely front to back and does not wallow at all despite being quite softly sprung. rear springs are of different types. however car sits level

Electrics

Looks to have had a full rewire. all electrics work without issue. with 2 exceptions (?)

 petrol guage is inaccurate and temperature gauge does not work

Hood

In pretty good condition overall. however is made from Vinyl. whilst it functions well enough long term would benefit from a better quality hood

Brightwork

Bumpers. pram irons and hub caps have all been rechromed to a very good standard. grill and headlamps come  up reasonably well but would benefit from being rechromed at some stage also. other brightwork is either original and consistent with age or repainted in silver

Chassis

The chassis all appears to be very good with no areas requiring attention

Wooden structure

On the whole woodwork looks good. no drop in the doors to speak of. in actual fact it all feels very solid. there is some delamination of the plywood bulkhead which is a fairly straightforward item to replace if so desired. what can be seen at the back looks to be mainly original and fairly sound

Interior

The interior has had a good quality retrim using a good quality leather and matching vinyl on the door panels etc. the interior wood is all in good condition but really has been varnished a little crudely and is too dark. would benefit from some attention. carpets are in good condition

Bodywork

All looks to be pretty good. has had a rather crude paint  many years ago . in my opinion in a colour which does nothing to flatter the car. but also over wing piping etc. other than that it is actually quite a good job and polishes up to be perfectly presentable. i some bubbling to paint principally around nsr wing. osf wing has small dent which will be repaired before sale ends

Driving experience

For the age of car it drives very nicely. with the roof down  it is incredibly quiet and relaxed. the torquey engine. combined with very nice gearbox and suspension all making it into a really pleasurable car to drive

It seems the best examples of these cars are advertised in the £25-35000. price range. nbsp; this example which I would consider to be entirely useable but ready for further improvement is advertised with a starting bid of £9000. I am about to lose under cover storage for the car and would like her to be sold quickly but will not consider any offer below this price.
