Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.05) based on 305 votes
- This 2600 Sprint was purchased by us in October 2012 and is now for sale due to storage space restrictions.
- A total of 6. 99 2600 Sprints were manufactured between 1962 and 1966. only 596 of which were manufactured with right hand drive steering; 219 in 1964. 362 in 1965. and 15 in 1966.
- According to the Alfa Romeo Museum Archives this 2600 Sprint was manufactured on June 5th 1964 as a right hand drive version and painted in light grey with a dark red leather interior. It was invoiced by the factory to Alfa Romeo London on September 10th 1964 and first registered in England for road use on January 26th 1965 as AUB-300C.
- The first change of ownership that is on record with the DVLA was in February 1972 when the car was purchased by Ken Davis of Harwich in Essex.
- Some time between the car's manufacture in 1964 and Mr Davis' purchase in 1972 the colour of the car had been changed from grey to maroon.
- When Mr Davis passed away in December 1983 ownership passed to his widow Hessie. Mrs Davis sold the car in July 1984 to Ron Lawrence of Brentwood in Essex.
- Mr Lawrence apparently used the car sparingly and retained it until August 1989 when he sold it to Dr Roger Monk of Cromer in Norfolk. Dr Monk had known of the car since 1980 during the ownerships of both Mr Davis and Mr Lawrence.
- In October 1989 Dr Monk transferred the 183-HLE number plate from his 1981 Alfa Romeo Alfetta onto the 2600 Sprint. and proceeded to use the car sparingly. covering just a couple of hundred miles in some years. In June 2000 the 183-HLE number plate was transferred to Dr Monk's Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider. after the removal of its 4-MNK number plate. The Sprint was re-issued with the licence plate DCK-183C.
- Dr Monk has owned several Alfa Romeo 2600 models and was the Club Secretary for the Club Alfa Romeo 2600 / 2000 International until around 2001.
- Dr Monk then had the 2600 Sprint restored and re-painted in metallic silver. a colour much closer to its original grey. This work was completed in April 2004.
- In August 2005 the car was purchased by Tony Jenkins of Bordon in Hampshire who retained the car for just a couple of months. The car was entered into three auctions in Esher. Surrey. run by Barons Auctioneers. resulting in a no sale at the first in November 2005. a sale at the second in December 2005. and another sale in the third in June 2006.
- Purchased by a client of ours from West London in the June 2006 Barons Auction. the car was given the number plate AEZ-236 and used enthusiastically and regularly until we purchased it from him in October 2012.
- The 2600 Sprint engine is a 2. 84cc straight six twin-cam unit which the factory reported as delivering 145 Bhp when new with the standard triple Solex carburettor set up. Our Sprint had the popular triple Weber carburettor conversion carried out to it in March 2010.
- Upon our purchase a request was made to the DVLA to remove the AEZ-236 number plate and re-instate the cars original AUB-300C number plate which had been lost during Dr Monk's application of his 183-HLE number plate in October 1989. The DVLA agreed to our request and AUB-300C was reunited with the car in November 2012.
- We have recently had a new head gasket fitted to the car along with a complete cylinder head overhaul. New piston rings were also fitted at this time. along with an overhauling of the braking system that resulted in the fitting of a brake servo and having the brake master cylinder and rear calipers rebuilt. These works totaled over £6. 00.
- The bodywork and paint are in good condition with a few marks in various places. A repaint at some time in the future would result in an excellent car as the floor is in superb condition. The interior is wonderfully original and in very good condition with the enormous seats being extremely comfortable.
