Where do I start?.

Morris Mini Minor  registration no 1732 LJ. the original number. Built 16th November 1960. irst registered 20th March 61.

When the car was brand new it was taken to Downton Engineering who modified the engine & gearbox & fitted a supercharger. So the car has never been standard. The Downton stuff is however now long gone.

The previous owner. a highly qualified engineer. nbsp;purchased the car in October 1963 from Westover Garage in Bournemouth. ho originally supplied the Mini. nbsp;where he was working at the time. He used it with a variety of 3 engines of different sizes between 1963 & 1971 when it came off the road & was put into dry storage.

In 2011. 40 years later. he decided to put it back on the road!

The body was professionally repaired using Heritage panels. Both front & rear subframes are the originals & still solid.

The car had not done many miles when it came off the road in 1971. nly about 40. 00.

The current engine is a 998cc unit rebuilt with new big ends. ains. iming chain & clutch. Modified Cooper type head with twin SU carbs & a freeflow manifold. The gearbox is a nearly new one he purchased in 1970 then stored. Diff is  a 3. 4.

He tells me he spent £2500 "to get it through the MOT". There are receipted bills totalling nearly £2000 for parts alone between 2011 & 2013.

Paintwork was not his strongpoint however. or interior trim/passenger seats!

I have the original buff logbook & a British Motor Industry Heritage certificate with the Mini.

The car is still registered as an 848cc Mini Minor Saloon in the modern V5c.

So we now have a road legal Mk1 Mini with dreadful aerosol paintwork & practically no interior.

A worthwhile project for someone.

Thankyou.
