Jaguar launched the series 2 XJ in September 1973. The series 2 sold in greater numbers than the series 1 and although 127. 00 were produced just 1726 were Double-Six Vanden Plas models. These cars were by far the most luxurious of the XJ models and are easily identifiable with special order paint colours and various enhancements to the interior. most noticeably individually sculpted rear seats. For the first year or so of S2 production the Double-Six ran four Stromberg's like the “E” type and these are the rarest of these models with perhaps only four or five examples in existence.

This car is a 1973 Double-Six VP in its original colour of “Coral” metallic with just 53. 00 miles from new supported by several old MOT's. and an original “Passport to service” to 40k miles and various subsequent bills. From 1997 until 2012 this car was a museum exhibit until we bought it and carried out a substantial re-commissioning including a high quality re-paint. 5 new tyres. overhaul of all four brake calipers and new pads. two new fuel tanks. sender units fuel lines and fuel pump. overhaul of all four carburettors with new needle valves. various new exhaust sections. new battery. fan belt and air con belt. new ball joints and a comprehensive service including new ATF fluid. oil and filter. anti freeze. air filters. and spark plugs. Total expenditure over £5k.

As you can see from the photos. this VP is in beautiful condition and is almost certainly the only one left fitted with a full length “Webasto” roof. Please call if more detail is required. Tax exempt from April 2014.
