MG MGB 1966 BLUE-PLATE CALIFORNIA CAR UNMOLESTED CHROME WIRES OVERDRIVE for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2) based on 370 votes

Lifetime California metal-dash MGB. from the most desirable 1965-67 period. purchased from storage in a hanger at a Los Angeles private airport in 2012. Previously was a long-time Long Beach car.

An outstanding restoration candidate. I bought it to do for myself but with two finished chrome-bumper metal-dash roadsters already I just can't justify it. Wish I had found this one before I did the other two. it's the best original car I've ever found.

CLEAR CURRENT TITLE IN MY NAME. No back fees. Actually currently registered and insured.

BOTH BLUE CALIFORNIA PLATES INCLUDED.

HERITAGE CERTIFICATE INCLUDED (see photo)

Amazingly clean. great color of Mineral Blue. See photos for detail.

Later chrome wires with good splines. I put these on one of my other cars and drove to check - no clunking.

Later LH blue-plate overdrive on four-synchro transmission. Technically this car should have no synchro on first but I've put these post-1967 overdrives on my other cars and LOVE the synchro on first. Also the overdrive makes all the difference on the freeway and makes 65mph a reasonable cruising speed. with 70+ not painful.

Later 18V engine. needs to be rebuilt. doesn't turn. Included is a box of engine parts including pistons and rods from another 18V. but you should plan to rebuild or swap the engine. It's been parked for a long time. so you should plan on doing the fuel system and hydraulics.

ABSOLUTELY COMPLETE except for no top and no wiper arms.  Rolls freely.

Has a couple of unusual accessories: kick panels on the doors. and headlight bucket trim rings. both period dress-up accessories. Seats are incorrect. from a 1968. More comfortable and locking back. but not original. Inner door handles are alloy with wood inlay. also period dress-up. Period wood steering wheel.

Someone has put tin floor panels in. No idea why - see the underside photos: the passenger side has no rust and the driver's side has a small amount at the front.

Some rust in lower passenger front fender and driver's dogleg . Both jack points completely solid. Passenger dogleg is amazing.  Rails solid.  See photos. I've restored a number of these and you just don't find them this good.

"Cut here" on passenger lower front fender was written on for a TV pilot that we shot with the car. copy of the sizzle reel to the winning bidder! We moved the car from Los Angeles to Las Vegas for the shoot and it is currently in Las Vegas.

Both battery brackets complete and rust-free. but driver's side was modified to take a single larger 12V battery. Later fuel pump moved into passenger side bucket. (can send pics on request)

Both bumpers have dents. and there's a dent below the passenger-side taillight.

All switches and gauges present and good condition. No radio or blanking plate.

Currently has a later steel hood/bonnet. but the original aluminum bonnet is included. This hood has very light damage on the nose. it's worth fixing (can send pics on request).

Essentially this is the best place you could possibly start for a restoration of the most desirable era of MGB - a chrome-bumper metal-dash with overdrive and good chrome wires. I'm really reluctant to sell it as I know I'll never find another this good to start with. but I just can't justify a third one for myself and the prospect of restoring it for sale won't work - if I do it. I'd keep it.

We're experienced with shipping to the UK and Continental Europe and Norway. Nous parlons Francais.

Any questions please ask. We've been restoring British cars for 23 years.

Best. br>Andrew
